Dr. Mark Alan Marinella, MD

He's very knowledgeable but two major complaints: 1. His office is fairly disorganized. Felt like I had to manage my own care and do my own follow ups. Also, I would show up to appointments and they would not know what the appointment was for--resulting in additional appointments that was a drain of time and money. 2. He kept referring me for expensive procedures in a hospital instead of in a doctor’s office where they would be cheaper. When I would ask him or his staff for help reducing the expense of the procedures they would say "there's nothing we can do." By my estimation, he's cost me about $1,700 unnecessarily. I have since moved on.

Horrible Horrible doctor. What a joke he is and he was the 2nd doctor with Dayton Physicians. Too long of a list to explain but sounds like the same issues others have had with him going back several years. He even talked to us about another patients issues not realizing he was in the wrong room.

My first visit with Dr. Marinella was a rough one. As he entered the room, he didn't bother to ask whether anyone had interpreted my biopsy report. Instead, he just blurted out potential staging. Luckily, since I had had two weeks to Google my report I had to correct him, since he got some of the details (# of positive regional lymph nodes) wrong. "In terms of treatment, it doesn't make a difference." But it does matter quite a bit, Dr. Marinella when it comes to my prognosis and survival statistics, so please take the time to get that right. As if this weren't enough, he didn't seem to know whether the hospital had done a scan of my chest, which put me in a panic as to whether there was doubt over spread to my lungs. We insisted that he go back check, leaving us scared to death in the waiting room for him to come back out and confirm that they had. "I reviewed that yesterday" he said "I just forgot." Despite this dismal first appointment, I gave him several second… chances. It was Monday morning, after all. Maybe it was a bad day. Subsequent appointments were like speed dating. He asked me a couple of questions and then ran for the door. I learned to bring my questions in writing and start blurting them out as he began to walk toward the door. He would tell me that things I researched weren't really relevant, but didn't take the time to tell me why. The straw that broke the camel's back was when my genomic testing report came back. I had picked up the report, two weeks prior when I met with his nurse practitioner. She told me that Dr. Marinella would be able to answer my questions on it. After two weeks of once again having to Google a report to get information, he breezes in, asks some questions about side effects and then asks "anything else?" I told him that I was hoping that he could explain my genomic testing report to me. "I haven't even read it" was his response. "Those results aren't really relevant to first line treatment any way, but will effect drugs you could use down the line." Thanks to Dr. Google and a visit to a second opinion Oncologist, I already knew that I had a Genomic mutation that significantly impacted my prognosis and future drug options. My DOCTOR did not because in the two weeks' time since it came in, he hadn't even bothered read the report. "My job at this point is just to monitor side effects and check for toxicity." I then asked about whether he could set up a follow-up appointment with a local surgeon he had referred us to to discuss the MRI results and get more information. He just stared at me, so I told him that we would set it up ourselves. That was my last appointment with Dr. Marinella. I am only 40, I have Stage 4 cancer, and I am scared. I deserve someone who will take the time to know my record, read my reports and answer my questions. Not someone who cares only about booking out of the room it to his next paid appointment. You are caring for scared, sick dying people. Get your hand off of the dang doorknob. I deserve more than minimal care. And so do you. Please look elsewhere.

Dr. Marinella is a very professional and caring person. He explains clearly and does research, as necessary, for you as an individual. I never felt rushed and all questions were answered. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Marinella is a highly competent, intelligent, and professional physician. I came to trust his judgment and his skill in treating my illness. He has a calm and no-nonsense manner that I find refreshing. He welcomes questions, listens thoroughly, and takes ample time to answer any concerns. I would recommend him to anyone facing a serious health issue.

Doctor Marinella knows what he is doing and cares about you as a patient. He saved my life. He didn't give up on me. I'm still his patient on a follow up basis and I wouldn't change doctors. He is straight forward, thoughtful mind, talented, and anyone would be lucky to have him as a doctor.

Very impersonal. Didn't care about my case. Very distracted throughout the entire appt.

I will never - NEVER - go to this physician again. First, the office is dirty, the staff rude and on my second (and last) visit, I waited almost 2 hours to see the doctor. For someone sitting there who is scared as to what may be wrong with them, you do not sit there and guess a laundry list of what they "MAY" have. No thanks. Very unprofessional.
