Dr. Mark Allen Mcclanahan, MD

My husband, who is on a fixed income, arrived for his very first ever visit and was immediately told if he didn't pay his co-pay of $20, he would not be seen. All of his other doctors have always billed us, so he wasn't prepared to pay out of pocket at that time. There was no resolution by the front desk staff, nor the doctor--my husband was just told if he didn't pay it NOW, he needs to leave! For $20?!? It's bad enough they charge a whopping $150 for missed appointments! To turn a patient in need away for a mere $20 is abhorrent and unethical! So much for the Hippocratic Oath! Shame on this practice and their policies!

Been going to this office for a while. Scott Urquhart P.A. has been great every appointment. The reason for the 1 star is a very poor billing department and front office staff. I was barred from that practice for billing errors that I have receipts for. Billing is not done locally or in office so there's no one to talk to.

I have received health care from Dr McClannahan for years. He has always gone above and beyond the standard to ensure I received the highest quality care. I am grateful for his service.

We should all be able to agree that science has proven that type II diabetes can be very well manageable by a proper diet and exercise; at least for the most part with minimal drugs. Dr. Mcclanahan's position on treatment of a manageable disease, is to medicate to the extremes. These drugs that he prescribes have side effects, as all drugs do. In most cases, the side effects of what he prescribes provide more risk than benefit. But don't worry, he'll fix those side effects with more drugs! If you're looking for a doctor that genuinely wants to treat the disease, you might want to keep searching.

I am so grateful I found Dr. M when I first moved up to this part of Virginia. He has worked with me to figure out how to handle my diabetes. Over the years we have developed a good rapport and I look forward to working with him in the future. At times we speak of other things -- vacations we take and compare notes. To me, this makes him more accessible. Also, if I send an email - weekends included - he answers quickly. No waiting forever for a response to whatever question has come up.

Dr McClanahan is a wonderful person and a very excellent doctor. He really is very honest with you, speaks his opinion directly. He always seems to know how to proceed. I am very happy with his service. I have worked with doctors the better part of my 63 years and I have had a lot of experience with them. The years of experience have taught me to discern the top doctors and he is definitely that.

Dr. McClanahan and his staff are wonderful. I travel approximately one hour to his office and it is completely worth it. I am so happy to have found this practice. I recommend Dr. McClanahan and his office, without hesitation, to everyone and anyone that needs a Diabetes or Thyroid doctor.

Easy to get an appointment w/ the doctor. Dr. McClananhan is a very caring and personable doctor. He explains things thouroughly and you don't feel that you are being rushed when you have questions. I wish more of the doctors in the area were like him!!!!
