Dr. Mark Aquinas Mcquillan, MD

Doctor his took time to answered every question as well as to explain differences in a manner that I understood. U of M Hospital medical care is significantly improved by his knowledge and professional abilities as well as his teaching skills. Wish they had a 100 more like him.

My husband with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma came to University of Michigan (which he is a patient) in an ambulance. His WBC was extremely low and he was in critical care. Dr. McQuillan was the Dr on duty and I have never met a more disrespectful, uncaring, rude and arrogant Dr in my life. He would not answer any of our questions, he admitted that he had not even read my husbands file. He kept saying "I can't answer that for you". At one one point he asked my husband what his diet was and my husband explained how he was eating really healthy and organic to try and stay healthy. Dr. McQuillan (in front of my children) said "yes, unless you have Metastatic Melanoma, then you should just eat whatever you want to". He told me he was a big deal and I should look him up on google. At one point he said "what I can tell you is that I have other more important patients to attend to". I looked you up on google, Dr. Mcquillan and you have a 2 rating, not so good. Everyone has the same type of… comments about you. You have no bedside manner, no caring for the patient and the family members that are scared and want some answers. This in the University of Michigan, you don't belong here. I'm appalled and when I'm this angry, I just do nor stop until something is done. Thankfully, you are not our Dr. and you had no time for us anyway.

My husband is a pt at UMMC, third for fourth time in 3 months or so, same problem. This is his hospitalist this time around. This morning, while my adult, well mannered, intelligent daughter was there in my absence, Dr McQuillan came in and copped an attitude of superiority and disdain, was unwilling to really think about her questions or answer them, was generally rude and disgusted. His attitude was not only unprofessional, it was inappropriate. My husband is a physician who graduated from UMMC, as did Dr McQuillan, and also earned a masters degree in public health, also from Michigan. So - this is how they treat their own. He told my husband he had done all he could for him. My husbands made some suggestions, (he is an excellent diagnostician and will fight for his patients and get to the bottom of their illnesses no matter what. He has never abandoned them to a specialist because he does not want to do research and look for options). Dr McQuillan was upset that my husband would… deign to make suggestion for his own care. He was offensive. His bedside manner is non-existent and he probably should be in a lab doing research on rats. The alley kind. There is no excuse for treating people as "less than", with no respect whatsoever. Especially when that person is a peer. Furthermore, my husband is an adult, though weakened and sick. He can leave the hospital AMA if necessary. My daughter is polite, articulate, and was acting as an advocate for her father. When you are rude and dismissive to my kids, that is my line in the sand. This will not go well as YOU DO NOT WITH MY KIDS. Even when they are adults. She deserves an apology as does my husband and he deserves a diagnosis, not a band aid. This is the "great" University of MIchigan Hospital - really? This is not going to go away. He has been rude to the wrong person. For future patients, caveat emptor.
