As a youth, Dr. Oyer was actively involved in athletics, participating as a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball. Personal experiences with sports-related injuries led to his first exposure to the field of orthopedics and sparked a growing fascination with the body’s ability to heal. He pursued undergraduate studies in kinesiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he …was awarded two scholarships and graduated with Highest Honors on the Dean’s List.
Dr. Oyer continued his education at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria, earning his medical degree as a Graduate of Distinction. He then completed both his internship and orthopedic residency at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago. To further advance his expertise, Dr. Oyer completed an Adult Reconstruction Hip and Knee Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Medicine and Public Health.
During his residency, Dr. Oyer developed a particular interest in total joint replacement, an orthopedic sub-specialty he believes offers the best outcomes for patients—not only relieving pain but also restoring the active lifestyles they cherish. As a hip and knee surgeon, he is honored to help patients regain mobility and return to the activities they love.
In his practice, Dr. Oyer focuses on outpatient and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including the Direct Anterior Approach for total hip replacement, robotic-assisted total knee replacement, and complex revision surgeries. He is dedicated to working collaboratively with his patients to determine the best treatment options, whether surgical or non-surgical, with the goal of alleviating arthritic pain and restoring quality of life.
Outside of his professional responsibilities, Dr. Oyer enjoys spending time with his chocolate Labrador, golfing, fishing, working out, and watching professional basketball, baseball, and football. He and his wife share a passion for culinary exploration and enjoy socializing with friends and family.
Dr. Oyer provided a straight up assessment of where I am and what I can expect as I progress in age. He recommended an array of things to defer surgery as long as possible. Excellent understanding of my lifestyle and how to maintain quality.
