Dr. Mark Stephen Persky, MD

Dr. Persky did a surgery on my neck for thyroid cancer that was much more complicated than he was capable of doing. Instead of deferring to a more experienced surgeon after he reviewed the imaging, he butchered my neck, destroyed nerves and left me with daily pain for the past 10 years. He also left behind a tumor on my trachea but lied and told me he had gotten all the cancer out. Thank god for Dr. Mark Urken, who got the remaining tumor out. But I am left maimed and with a lifetime of pain. This surgeon is to be avoided at all cost. He should not be practicing.

This is a long overdue review. Eleven years ago my husband had a rare form of an agressive head & neck cancer. We saw several heads of departments in reputable hospitals in NYC. None of them knew what was wrong after months of searching for answers. Within 30 minutes of seeing Dr. Persky we had a diagnosis and treatment plan, along with a smart, compassionate oncology team. I will always be eternally grateful to Dr. Persky for his knowledge and empathy.

I've had three surgeries after the one with Persky - he is the worst doctor and the worst surgeon I have ever known. He left me with chronic pain from the surgery more than 5 years ago. He lied and told he he got all the tumor out when he knew his surgical skills had not been up to it, and the tumor had to be removed by a more skilled surgeon. The worst was, when I went for the post-op visit, my spinal nerve was stunned and I could not lift my arm - in front of my son he accused me of faking it. Words fail.

I, NINA ERNST am giving my thanks and appreciation to DR.MARK S PERSKY and his wonderful staff, for the exceptional and wonderful hospital experiance. (10-31-18) The first meeting/interview with DR. MARK S PERSKY was informative, relaxed and not rushed. Although, knowing the operation (removing a deep seeded tumor) was serious, the decision to proceed was simple and clear,knowing I would be in good hands. Instructions by staff regarding steps required in preparations for operation as to what to do, when to do it, and how to do it, was clear and precise. Simply impressive ! N.Y.U. hospital - One night stay- single, one bed, water view, nurse very attentive! WONDERFUL !

I would like to thank you Dr. Mark S Persky for his amazing work. I am so happy I agreed to have my surgery done at his Facility. Aside from confusing a malignant tumor with a benign one, and a benign tumor with bone, I would say that Dr. Persky helped me tremendously.

Dr. Persky saved my life 23 years ago, I was a 28yr. new Mother dx. with head and neck cancer. His care and skill are superb. Two years after initial surgery, 21 years ago again Dr. Persky saved my life when I was dx. with a large Thyroid tumor. I continue with my yearly check-ups with Dr. Persky. The Md's Office Staff are equally fabulous. My experience with Staff at NYU Hospital also fantastic especially RN's. I have Refered other Individuals to Dr. Persky, he saved their lives as well!

Although I expressed concern about becoming hypothyroid after my hemithyroidectomy, I was told by Dr. Persky "I would be fine." He neglected to test me for a common thyroid disease, Hashimoto's, which left me severely hypothyroid after the surgery. He did not explain any risks. In addition, I used another surgeon to complete the removal of my thyroid and she said "it looked like he put his thumb in there," due to the amount of scar tissue she found and made my surgery with her very difficult.

After seeing 3 department heads in another top hospital with no diagnosis, Dr. Persky diagnosed a rare form of cancer in my husband within the first 10 minutes of our appointment. He is a genius and a very caring man.
