Dr. Mark Richards, MD

I went to Dr. Richards for a heart ablation in attempt to fix my WPW. We had more then one conversation about the possibility of incompletion. He said if my extra valve was in a spot he couldn’t get to that he would pull out unfinished and we would have to look into other options like medication. (I was not thrilled about this possible outcome but I understood) I was in surgery for an extra few hours and my family was never even talked to during this time. Until the end when he came out and told my mom that he “just kept burning”. I had to stay the night. The surgery was unsuccessful and I was sent home with a hard time breathing. I was home for a week “recovery” where I felt I was suffocating inside my own body. When I went to my follow up appointment to be checked Dr. Richards wasn’t even there. He was on vacation. I spoke with his nurse at the office and told her I couldn’t breath at all. They had me walk around the building where I had to stop multiple times due to loss of breath.… She said I was fine and told me to go home and wait it out. My mom knew something wasn’t right and she drove me to St. Joes Hospital. They admitted me the same day and told me my heart rate was averaging 40 BPM. They implanted a pacemaker the next day. I am 24 years old and I now have a pacemaker. If he would have just pulled out like he told me originally then I wouldn’t be in this situation. If anyone knows someone with a pacemaker, it is a brutal experience. Mentally, physically, and emotionally. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. I’ve also since then had to get another ablation done by St. Joes. I was told it was successful this time. I am still enduring all this pain and suffering that could have been completely avoided had Dr. Richards kept his word and done what WE had originally talked about. If I could rate less then 1 star then I would.

I had a very positive experience with my first visit. Needed to establish a new cardio doc. Felt great about his expertise, honesty and advice for my care.

Came into the pharmacy, threw a temper tantrum, medication was not ready for pick. Would not see this doctor. He may throw a tantrum during surgery.

I have used Dr Richards many years thru many experiences. He has been honest with me and my family thru a rough patch.

Doctor Richards is a excellent doctor very professional he follows up with you he has great bed side manners..he saved my life his staff is great love the Nurse practitioner.. Seen 3 other doctor they where Awesome also Nwoo ...Rocks

Dr. Richards is the most knowledgeable and caring doctor I have ever known. He is patient and careful to be sure you know what he is saying. He is also an excellent surgeon.

Dr. Richards took the time to sit down with me and my family and completely explain, using a picture of a heart and paper and pen, and drew an illustration and completely explained normal functions and what my heart was doing, in terms even my 12 year old understood.
