Dr. Mark J Scherlie, DO

Dr. Sherlie is a terrible Doctor who only cares about money. I was seen in the Salem Hospital ER for heart issues, chest pains. I have not set up my Primary care doctor since I am new to Salem. The hospital referred me to Dr. Sherlie for a follow up appointment. It took 2 weeks to be seen. The beginning of the appointment was fine. He asked questions regarding chest pain and what actions was I doing to cause the chest pains. I also I have back issues that makes it so I cannot be so active, my chest pains are not caused by my activities. I continue to discuss my family history and other symptoms I was experiencing. He concludes and says that I’m young and that I shouldn’t be having heart attacks. He also tells me that he cannot help me with pain management. I was very confused when he said that statement since the chest pain hurt but not enough for any pain management. Then he continues to comment on the medication that was given to me by another doctor for my back issues. I was… strictly seeing him for my heart issue. After that statement, he continues to tell me that he has an obligation to the Salem Hospital because he signed a contract with them. He sees patients from the ER who do not have a primary care doctor, he also states that 70% percent of the time, the patients either don’t show up or they don’t have insurance and that “they are a waste of his time”.I felt extremely uncomfortable after all these statements, he continues to look at my chart and see that I have a job and insurance. That was when he suggested tests and labs I could try. I was extremely offended and taken aback by a doctor that was so unprofessional. I suggest that Salem Hospital cancel their contract with Mark Sherlie, DO. I will never go back to that office.

Mark Scherlie is a great doctor!! Their Billing Department office manager is completely incompetent. You get bills for no reason then she blames the insurance company all time. Whatever!!

He spends time with each patient ensuring that he answers your questions and that you understand his answers. He gives great referrals to specialists so that you are receiving overall coordinated comprehensive care.

Dr. Scherlie is extremely well informed, listens to his patients respectfully, and tries to find the underlying issues.
