Dr. Mark Raymond Shaw, MD

This is absolutely one of the most caring, kind staff! Dr Shaw is excellent..even before I leave I'm already in less pain and pain free within 24 hours! I tell everyone about Dr Shaw& staff!!

Have had two different radiological procedures done with Dr Shaw and his staff. From the time I checked in with the friendly receptionist to the time I left, it was a very pleasant experience. Wait time at both appointments less than five minutes. I was greeted by Dr Shaw’s asst and assisted to the procedure room where I was prepped for the procedure. Dr Shaw explained the procedure extremely well, was very gentle and informative as to what to expect during the injections. A very pleasant experience with both visits!

Myself and my brother are frequent fliers at Dr. Shaw's office. Both of us have arthritic joint and back issues. Dr. Shaw, Emily, Mrs Shaw, and anyone I have have encountered in that office have been top notch. They are friendly, professional and knowledgeable. One of the former reviews is obviously speaking of another Dr. Shaw. This Dr. Mark Shaw is the best. I have been his patient for at least 20 years. NEVER a bad experience. Injections have not always worked; however, that is not because he did not do his part. As with any steroid injection, sometimes they work and sometimes they do not. I appreciate knowing I will always received competent care.

Had visit today for injection for back pain. Dr. Shaw was fantastic; very patient in explaining to me what he was going to do and how. Great “bedside manner”, so to say. The staff was very cordial, very professional and attentive. Atmosphere was great, very relaxing. Loved the waiting area, very new and clean. Loved the fact that he had a big screen HD TV to watch will I waited. Five stars all around!

I just left Dr. Shaw’s office after my treatment and wanted to write a review before I forget. This was the first visit in four years and it was for a different problem. I was very happy to see that great places don’t change. The staff are excellent going the extra mile to make you feel comfortable. Dr. Shaw puts you to ease telling you what he is going to do and updating you during the procedure. He is very personable. I also watched FOX news while waiting to leave after my procedure. What a plus.

I went with a family member to see Dr Shaw last week and the first thing we were greeted with as we walked in was the Fox TV News Network Blaring....ugh This is not about any political preference, it just felt very divisive as soon as we walked in. In my opinion the waiting area in a professional's office needs to be neutral and inviting. I feel like the Home Network Channel would of been a better choice. :) The folks at Vanderbilt totally get that!

Lots of great reviews on this position, but I saw another side others may not have seen. After waiting weeks for a set of Facet injections. I was told that they would not be able to do my procedure once I arrived. The nurse stated the injections would be in a spot hard to get to, instead they would do a set of nerve blocks which would require two additional painful injections and if it worked, it would only take they pain away for 24 hrs. I would then go back to have the procedure done a second time to verify forr insurance that it would be ok to go back for a third time to have the nerves burned to hopefully provide relief. I became teary - like an idiot I made this appointment on my lunch hour. These shots are very painful but I have not been able to get out of bed on the weekend for months and did not want to take time off work lest my coworkers know that I have been in such horrific pain. I knew I could get thru it if it meant I could walk again. The nurse had me lay face… down on my stomach and brought the Dr. in. In tears I bent my head to look up at them and explained I had been counting the days to have this procedure. His attitude turned from a kind of faked jovial to him dropping thr F bomb! I believe the exact words we “Fu@$ -It!” There I was laying on my stomach, skirt pulled down a bit over my hips mortified as he went on to say he had already reached a high level radiation that month and besides he was not wearing his protective finger guard. I was literally in tears, I felt helpless and now in shock that he cussed and was worried about his radiation levels. It was already surreal. I did not know what to do so I asked “what would you do if you were me. “ I have asked this of other Dr.s before to as it is a good way to get an idea of what their advise would be. He said to get the 6 temporary nerve blocks. Trying to keep it light, I said “ok but you better have something strong to give me for the pain, “ ( a joke as they do not use anesthesia like some physicals do for this procedure) He started to slowly lower thr table and said “ I’m not going to do anything- this is not going to work- I feel you are questioning me!” So that is how I got kicked out of Dr. ( and I use the term loosely) Shaw’s office. Oh he explained it by saying he was “having a really bad day anyway.” I left asking them to please credit my account and walked out not knowing weather to laugh or cry. A few days later I called because I did not want to write a review. I did want to send an email to give me closure. I was humiliated and devastated on so many levels, Susan at the front desk said she could not give it out to me and asked me to hold. She thought I was on hold but I was not and I heard her say to the nurse laughingly, “ Oh you are going to want to take this one,!” Then I was disconnected. So go here if you want or don’t like I said, he seems like an ok guy, but the day I saw him he was completely unhinged. I don’t want anyone in this state going anywhere my spine!

Dr. Shaw is very personable and puts you at ease. He has years of experience and is confident in his ability. I trust him to do the procedure as pain free as possible. He explains the procedure and tells you what he is doing as he’s working on you. My first epidural lasted for almost 11 months and I I think the one I had today will be as good.

I receive epidurals in my spine every 3 to 4 month to relieve nerve pain due to stenosis associated with arthritis. I have found Dr, Shaw to not only be very competent regarding the procedure but there is virtually no pain and almost immediately relief. As a bonus he and his staff have a genuine interest in the patient and a comfortable friendliness to place you at ease. I find the whole experience pleasant.

Dr. Shaw and ALL his staff are amazing! They are so professional, kind and knowledgeable. Dr. Shaw injected my hip and I was pain-free within 48 hours. His facility is gorgeous - it didn't feel like a medical office at all. It is clean, organized, warm and feels like a mountain resort. I would recommend Dr. Shaw to anyone who is living with pain - I bet he can help!
