Dr. Marlon Brojan Ilagan, MD

Worst doctor. Appt on 5/5/23 due to abdominal pain. NP examined me and he dropped by to introduce himself. Schedule me for CT Scan and endoscopy/colonoscopy. CT Scan result showed that I have a mass-like density in my pancreas, liver lesion & lymph nodes. Panicked & called doctor. Office called after 2 days and scheduled an earlier endoscopic ultrasound & colonoscopy, blood test and PET scan. When all results came out, it's obvious that I have pancreatic cancer. Office called for a follow up with the doctor who performed endoscopic ultrasound & colonoscopy and not Dr. Ilagan. They called me back to schedule an appointment with the NP. I stressed that I need to see Dr. Ilagan seeing that reports are all showing that I have issue. I had an appt with the doctor the day before PET scan. Feeling scared I sent all my reports to my former GI in NJ. He called me that night and explained to me my situation and want to wait for the biopsy report. The next day, Dr. Ilagan called and… the first thing he said was "You need surgery". That stunned me & I asked what stage & he said stage 2. I asked about a surgeon & oncologist & he said he will refer me. Told him I will think abt it & he said he will call back. With the events going on, my trust & faith with Dr. Ilagan is down so I called up my Gi in NJ & he called the surgeon in NJ & provided me the info to call & set an appt. Dr. Ilagan called back & I told him my decision & he told me to go to NY or PA since he knows people there. Arrived in NJ & Dr. Ilagan called & he said "PET scan report is out & it does not look good. When are you going to NJ?" I told him I'm already in NJ. He murmured "Good luck". Drs in NJ looked at all the reports & films and said that my cancer is stage 4.

Dr. Ilagan is awesome. He always takes his time with you and he’s always helped me with my ulcerative colitis.

He saved my life. I was 35 and experiencing indigestion. Ultimately he believed I would need a colonoscopy and low and behold he found two large precancerous colon polyps very close to becoming cancer. He is knowledgeable and experienced. He has a lot of patients which means he has a ton of ongoing experience but it also means he won’t pay attention to emotional needs.

Straightforward, no nonsense doctor with a positive disposition. First encountered Dr. Ilagan during an emergency visit to the Florida Hospital in Altamonte Springs. Quickly learned his trustworthiness and caring demeanor would make him my longterm gastroenterologist for Crohn's Disease treatment. He is willing to discuss multiple treatment options while still offering candid advice on his preferred method. Great bedside manner. Although the Center for Digestive Health is always busy, staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommend.

Have had to wait every time I have been to his office. Once was 2 hours and I left. Had procedure done and never did see him, and after waiting over an hour walked out again after having my procedure done by him. Went for results and he was running 2 hours late again, so I never saw him. Seems to be too busy to take proper care of his patients.

This is the most wonderful doctor in the world! Going to a specialist can be scary, but this Dr. and office staff make you feel comfortable and cared for. Dr Ilagan is truly concerned with your issues and does all he can for the hopes of a great outcome . I would not go anywhere else.

I like his straight forward and somewhat quirky personality. Don't like the number of tests, many of which seem unnecessary, he often orders. He does not seem to have a concern with cost to patient and/or to insurance providers. My problems are more with the office staff - you can never get a person on the phone and they take days to return calls if at all including for making appointments, billing, etc. They have never once refilled an RX without it being a problem - always swear they never got the fax or a phone call :( When you have tests you get a postcard days to weeks later to make an appointment - never a phone call which to me would be appropriate unless there were a serious medical issue that needed to be reviewed or follow up care was needed quickly. Also they put you as an inactive patient at one year - then each time you go (colonoscopies are usually every 5 years) they have to dig up your record and for some reason it always becomes incomplete. I suspect many of… these issues are due to the very large size of the practice. Perhaps more staff, better training and fewer patients would make for a better overall experience. When you see him in outpatient surgery the staff is great, on time and always follows up.

For no apparent reason, the doctor decided my issue was stress or depression or something emotional. He also said it could be nerve damage to the colon or several other things. He did not want to be confused with facts since his mind was made up. Shortly thereafter I landed in the hospital with a small bowel obstruction. I was put with him the first time because my primary care felt I needed to see someone quickly and the doctor she wanted was not available. Once you see someone in this practice you can not transfer to another doctor in the practice. I now understand why Dr. Illagan was available.
