Dr. Marta Helena Dasilva, MD

She had potential, but when she was giving complete autonomy to my 12 year old even though I am the one paying the bills, I took major issue with that. Also, my child doesn't like being talked about, and so even if they are over in the corner, they are still aware we are talking about them. Geez. She's also really condescending and grating. Search elsewhere.

I am 17 years old and autistic. I started to see Dr. Da Silva in the spring of 2016, when I was 14. Ever since then, it has been a terrible experience. She immediately discredited other experts I saw, and didn't even call my parents by their first names. It's funny how she takes issue with being interrupted, when she clearly has no problems interrupting others. Parents, if you have an autistic child struggling with emotions, don't see this psychiatrist.

I went to see Dr. Da Silva for problems that have been ongoing. She immediately tried to discredit what my previous doctors have said. She tried to tell me that every problem I have is because I use nicotine and she wouldn’t help me unless I get “clean” (I smoke NICOTINE, not crack). She told me that the reason I am no longer in school is because I can’t concentrate. She knew me for all of 5 minutes when she said that. She also was giving me trouble for my mom coming with me (I’m 21). I don’t think anyone should be bashed or made feel less because they need someone there for moral support. I left that appointment feeling 10 times worse about myself than I did going in. The level of disrespect and patronizing attitude I received is unbelievable. I am very glad I was stable going into the appointment, and I can’t imagine her saying anything of this nature to anyone else. It’s disguting for lack of a better word.

Dr. daSilva is a straightforward person. She will tell you her professional opinion. She likes to make teenagers accountable for their actions and take some responsibility. Everything she suggests is in the best interest of the patient. If you are looking for a doctor to coddle you and your child, she will probably not be the best fit. But if you are looking for a doctor to prepare your child/teenager for life and adulthood, then I would recommend Dr. daSilva.

Based off of our experience, Dr. Da Silva is in this business because the number of diplomas on her wall are very impressive to her. She is not very empathetic to the patient or family and gets visibly put out if you are trying multiple methods/people to help your loved one. I recognize it is almost impossible to get into a psychiatrist, but I would try anyone and everyone else first.

I read a few of the reviews and found some spot on and others completely missing the boat. Dr Da Silva is not always on time, but I have been in an appointment that we were at a critical point and appreciate that she didnt stop the clock and move on the the next patient, so patience is key. I like the way that she talks to my son, she is to the point and stern with him, he needs that. I see progress after less than a month and feel certain that she will work with us until we feel like the issues are correctly diagnosed and able to manage this. Have been thrilled with the progress to far.

I love Dr. DaSilva. As a teen, she saved my life and kept me emotionally balanced. She also has gotten to know my personality and seems to have a gut instinct of which medications will or won't work well. Her office doesn't accept my insurance so I privately pay and it is well worth the money!

Absolutely horrible experience. Will not recommend.
