Dr. Martha L Cortes, DDS

This dentist is highly dangerous. Over the course of 7 years at a cost over $25,000, she used two appliances on me (the DNA/Vivos and "AGGA"/ARA/ORA that resulted in a loss of my teeth and severe bone loss. She watched the damage occur over years, and yet continued to tell me the appliances were growing the jaws and changing the face. Be aware. She is dangerous.

I don't know where my bad review giving objective evidence of Martha's substandard care, but it is gone. She replaced two old fillings and said she was going to readjust my bite. Well she did and I haven't had occlusion since then. My new dentist said the fillings are so poorly applied that she created food traps under the edges of the fillings and created malocclusion that is causing wear on my other teeth. She also created a DNA to readjust my bite and it pushed my teeth all over the place even creating snag teeth. She doesn't listen; she doesn't use interventions that are within the standard of dental care. She has ruined my mouth. I have submitted my records for review by her professional dentistry board.

I came to Dr. Cortés with pain. My body felt out of wack, my face hurt, I couldn't open my mouth well and I felt swollen. I was uncomfortable and I had no idea at the time that it was stemming from my lower jaw and oral architecture. After having the opportunity to have a consult with Dr. Cortés, I was told that my lower jaw was coming forward, and my upper jaw was holding it back, causing my lower jaw to jam back and cause great pain. Furthermore, my teeth had come edge to edge and were hitting, causing more sensitivity and discomfort. I was diagnosed with Temporal Mandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ). I have now been on the DNA appliance system with Dr. Cortés for almost three years and I can not express how thankful I am. In addition, I began to have hearing loss, a poking sensation and tinnitus in my right ear (as a musician, audio engineer and producer - this was concerning). I learned that my tongue-tie, in combination with my TMJ, was causing the problem. I had a frenuloplasty… (a tongue-tie release procedure) which in turn took away tension in my jaw, neck, shoulders and back, some of that tension I never knew I had. The range of motion in my neck improved, and I felt more relaxed. Also, not only did my right ear open up, but my left ear as well! My ears felt %70 better!!! Dr. Cortés is a brilliant practitioner. With years of experience in TMJ and Sleep Breathing Disorders, as well as other aspects of dentistry, she truly looks at oral health, its architecture and its effect on the body as a whole. (And her staff is unbelievably kind, attentive and helpful - especially when my TMJ flairs up or something shifts and i'm in pain.) Currently still in treatment, I'm beyond thankful, for I wouldn't know what type of poor condition I would be in today.

How could I have allowed this snake oil salesman to touch me? I don't even know where to start. She talked me into getting this device, a DNA, she was experimenting with because my bottom teeth were pushed forward. She said it would realign my bite.After she took an impression for the DNA, she replaced an two old amalgam fillings. She should have done better planning in staging the procedures. Not only did the DNA not fit after she changed my bite, this very expensive device hurt and caused ulcers as long as I wore it. The "adjustments" she made when she replaced my fillings created a Class III malocclusion (her own assessment). She made claims like her DNA fixes herniated disks, takes away wrinkles, fixes sleep apnea. I think it obstructed my airway and made me snore - the opposite of her outrageous claims ... She is expensive but if you aren't participating in her DNA stuff, she totally abandons you to her hygienists and help. If I don't stop here, I'll never stop. My complaints… about the way she abused me are endless.

Thankfully I did not go forward with treatment,, but with the consultation I had and her evaluation, you can clearly see how erratic and unprofessional she is and she still managed to make me spend about $1000 on an unneccesary MRI. Avoid! You can also see the complaint on her on rip-off report.

Ridiculously expensive for nothing. She just talked and said proudly that she charges one thousand dollars an hour for 'intellectual property."
