Dr. Martin Barandes, MD

I went to see him 18 yrs ago. He told me i was going to die within. year if he doesn't remove my thyroid. I went for a second opinion and was told i had a perfectly healthy thyroid (and still do, 18 yrs later). I complained to medical board, they couldn't care less..

He's rude and condescending, asks irrelevant questions & makes comments entirely outside the bounds of the professional relationship. I'm 61 years old & he consistently referred to me as a "girl". He never let me finish a sentence, gave me unasked for and unwanted advice about my personal life & when blood work came back with results he didn't expect, he accused me of not taking my meds. Every time I tried to ask a question, he cut me off and reminded me "I've been doing this a long time, dear". This guy needs to retire.

I saw Dr Barandes for YEARS and never understood the negative reviews, however the wait times were always insane. Today his rude comments left me in tears. It's as if he has a Jeckyl/Hyde personality. I asked him one question about weight gain and my hypothyroidism and he became very critical. He insulted me and told me that I didn't have the discipline to lose weight, or else I already would have. I work out with a trainer 3x a week and utilize a nutritionist. He told me to "look in the mirror" and it will tell me the truth. I was stunned at his behavior.

I CAN'T BELIEVE this guys is not in JAIL!!! I came to him about 13-14yrs ago for a regular thyroid check up - because i was getting sick with colds and flus a lot, and also had a persistent cough. I'm a former model from Russia - tall and blonde. NOW - read this!!! This guy tells me: if he does not remove my thyroid immediately, i will die in one year!!!! Without any tests, just looking at me! He looked a little too excited to see me, i should say, smiling in a sleazy way. Right away I went to get a second opinion, and another doctor did tests and told me there was NOTHING WRONG with my thyroid. 14yrs later, I'm still alive and well, without having a single thing done for my thyroid, and without ANY thyroid issues, at all.

My mother , myself and my sister have been seeing Dr. Barandes for years. We are all very happy. I am surprised to read all the negative comments. This Doctor has always been very professional and very nice to us all. Yes he does have a sense of humor so maybe some do not like that. I would and have recommended him to others who have also been happy. ANd the office has always been very accommodating to us. Karen especially is very nice.

do not go to him, he is dangerous, I have major problems because of him. He is known by other doctors to be really bad. Trust me ask another doctor about him and you will see

I was treated for thyroid cancer, I had the radioactive iodine at his office after thyroidectomy. And I can say that I am sooooo happy I didn't listen to the negative reviews. I was so fearful but he reassured me and told me, you are in good hands. And I am. He is an excellent doctor, he knows what he is doing. He might have a particular sens of humour but that doesn't mean anything. I'm the type of patient, I couldn't care less about bedside manner (which was great by me) as long as he knows what he is doing. Today, my TSH is absolutely normal, I am cancer free and I never had any side effects or felt not normal from the dosage he prescribed. As far as I am concerned, he is the best. Period.

I have read the mixed reviews of this doctor and all I can say is thank goodness for him. My previous doctor prescribed thyroid medicine for me which I took for almost a year. When I went to my primary doctor he discovered that my thyroid had become "over active". My previous doctor claimed my primary doctor had not looked at the "whole picture" and told me to continue on the medication. When I went to Dr. Barandes, he gave me an examination, took blood, requested my previous blood tests and called me 3 days later and told me he had no idea why this doctor had put me on tyroid medication as there was no evidence of any thyroid problems. If it wasn't for him, I would still be on medication that was wrong for me and possibly doing irrevocable damage. As far as his "bedside mannor", I don't think anyone is going to him for that -- aren't you going to have a good doctor who knows what he is doing??

I've been his patient for the last 16 years and he is an excellent doctor and human being. He is concerned about your health not only your money like most of the doctors. He saved my life and some other people's lives that I know. I met him before I had my two children and his profesionalism helped me to have healthy kids. As a hypothyroidism patient, my adviced is for patients: "Stop changing your doctors before you see results" and do not play with your thyroid condition.
