Dr. Mary Ella B. Wood, DO

This makes me sad because I felt safe and at home for years in the clinic where she currently works. But I can't recommend Dr. Wood. I was one of many patients diverted to her after my previous provider left the practice, and she came highly recommended. But the three months of transition have yielded multiple appointments canceled in error without notice and still others canceled without being rescheduled. In one situation, I waited over an hour only to find the staff had canceled my appointment by mistake. She wouldn't see me or reschedule. Yet, when I arrived late for an appointment, clearly distraught because of extremely bad news I received in another office on campus, she also wouldn't see me. It was unfortunate timing because I had multiple time-sensitive medical concerns. I raised my concerns shortly after in MyChart three weeks ago and have still not received a meaningful. response--no follow up about the issue, no one asking if I was doing okay considering my obvious distress… that day, no response about rescheduling. In the limited time we have met, I have not gotten the impression her approach incorporates the integrative and holistic approach to health advertised by her clinic and embodied by multiple other providers I've met with in the office. Medical discussions have so far been very transactional: If this, consider this medication. This is great if you only need someone to renew your prescriptions, are one who prefers medications (you do you, if that's what works) and perhaps sign a form. It's not so great if you require even the basic level of care attributed to a primary care physician. I have multiple chronic conditions, as did many of the patients who were displaced by the recent provider departure, and I don't really see this working out for others like me. Proceed with caution, especially in light of the long wait for an appointment.
