Dr. Mary E Franz, DO

Dr. Franz is very patient oriented. She takes time with her patients in order to be very thorough. Because of this, she often runs behind schedule. My wait times have been longer than what is posted here. Another reviewer complained that it is difficult to get an appointment with Dr. Franz. This patient said she had been in pain, and was told that she could not see the doctor for three months. There is a long wait time to see Dr. Franz at her office, and also to get an appointment with her, but when I have had reasons to get medical treatment right away, the office has scheduled me with one of a couple of nurse practitioners who work with Dr. Franz. I was told by them that Dr. Franz reviews all of their work. I am comfortable with this system. These practitioners also impress me as competent. Dr. Franz became my doctor about a year ago when I was in the process of semi-retiring and moving back to Topeka from Wichita. My wife and several of our very close friends have Dr. Franz as their… primary physician. I had been working more in Wichita than Topeka for the previous several years, and although my main residence was in Topeka, I had a Wichita apartment as well and spent more time during the week in Wichita than I did Topeka. I thus had a Wichita physician as my primary doctor. Dr. Franz agreed to take me on even though her practice is very large. She did so so my wife and I could have a family physician together. She had taken my wife on a couple of years before that because my wife had not been happy with our previous physician. She probably had very limited room for new patients at that time as well, but she knew my wife was in need so she agreed to take her on at the request of some of our close friends. The very fact that my wife and me have the honor of being part of Dr. Franz's practice is probably why she often runs behind, and is a little hard to get to see. She has trouble turning people down whom she knows need her services.

Dr. Franz is very nice and probably quite good. However when we had to switch doctors due to a retirement of our longstanding doctor, I was told she likes to spend time with her patients so you may have to sit in the waiting room for awhile to see her. I thought no problem as I wanted a doctor who would listen and discuss my concerns. However when in pain I was told I could not get into see her for 3 months! I had to switch to another doctor who got me right into her office. I'm not sure if Dr. Franz is aware of this issue or not but no one should have to wait 3 months to see a doctor when in pain.

Dr. Franz is an awesome dr. . Don't know what I would do without her

Mary Franz is a wonderful doctor. She is extremely accurate with information she gives. Yes, you have to wait to see this doctor. But, it is well worth the time. She spends the time with you.

My wife Shirley and I are fortunate to have had Dr. Mary as our PCP for about 19 years. She also treated Shirley's mother for the last 5 years of her life. We have always had, and continue to have, complete confidence in Dr. Mary's ability, judgement and thoroughness. She has seemed like a friend as well as our doctor which has given us great peace of mind when we have medical issues. I recommend her at the highest level!

She is the most caring doctor I've ever had.She spends time with you and doesn't rush you.
