Dr. Mary Ellen Greco, MD

Dr. Greco’s treatment plan for my DCIS stage 0 was an excessive over treatment plan that could actually cause me cancer and be detrimental to my health. She wanted a lumpectomy, removal of 4 lymph nodes, radiation and a hormone pill for 5 yrs… all without even knowing what the mass consisted of. When I questioned her, she became annoyed and told me it was the standard treatment plan…. whether I needed or not! I wanted a second opinion and she was frustrated When I refused her colleague. I found an excellent oncologist in Rochester, only needed the lumpectomy which evidenced a microcalcification inside BENIGN breast tissue. I’ve had no issues for 7 years now and I am saddened to see that my formal complaint to our insurance company has not stopped Dr. Greco from making others suffer! Ladies if you are sent to Dr. Greco, please get a second opinion outside of Syracuse NY.

I had early stage one, estrogen receptor positive breast cancer in both breasts. Dr. Greco repeatedly told me she recommended double mastectomy. I had a consult with a radiologist, who kept telling me the research didn't support what she was telling me. She literally told me at one visit, every time we got into your breasts we find something else - I went through three MRI biopsies, which were unnecessary and extremely painful. Then she referred me to an oncologist, who asked me why I was so attached to my breasts. At that point, I went to Sloan-Kettering, was told lumpectomy and radiation and am now 5 years cancer free. If I had listened to the advice given by Dr. Greco, I would have had both breasts removed. I was appalled at her lack of compassion and disturbed by her lack of knowledge of current research.

Dr. Greco was my Dr for 4years I had "dense"breast and I was recommended to a specialist. Over the years I've been put through many biopsies and lumpectomy's to find out it wasn't cancer. I would ask questions and she would act annoyed that I was questioning her. I did end up with breast cancer. I had to have chemo and radiation. During chemo I had a six week lumpectomy follow up with Dr Greco. I didn't think I could make the appt. since it was the day after chemo so my oncologist examined my breast to make sure the surgery sight was healing well. When I called to cancel with Dr Greco she called me back and yelled at me! She said "she was in charge of the show" I hung up at that point! I did have another appointment and thought maybe she would apologize but she wasn't even there at my appointment her nurse practitioner was. I'm now seeing another surgeon. Much happier.

I was so frightened to know I had breast cancer. I was a mess and she calmed me down, spoke to my daughters and I and explained everything. She is a wonderful caring doctor. She helps you through the worst part of cancer. She was excellent in the operating room also, I would recommend her to any person with a diagnosis of breast cancer, Thanks to her I am doing very well.

I walked in to dr. Geco's office terrified, as a suspicous spot had been found on my breast. I did not have to wait to see Dr. Greco, and she was very professional, warm, reassuring, and imformative; she examined me extensively and explained exactly what the proceedure I was to have entailed.
