Dr. Mary Donata Mahern, MD

I find Dr. Mahern to be very thorough and very helpful. and I've had plenty of procedures and a few surgery's..She has always steered me in the right direction for a second opinion. I like her bedside manner although a "bed" is never involved :-)

I went to see this doctor a few times for chronic, repeated illnesses/infections. She partially blamed the previous doctors I had seen in urgent care clinics. She told me that prescribing yet another antibiotic would be useless and I fully AGREED. However, after some test results she prescribed me an antibiotic for a "mild" infection. The antibiotic course was horrid. I developed another infection while on the medication and she prescribed me yet ANOTHER antibiotic whilst still taking my first one. I then caught one of the worst thrush infections both in my mouth and vagina. I had open sores and got sent to the ER for dehydration because I could barely keep anything down with the antibiotic she prescribed.I winced with pain. I made another appointment as the ER doctor instructed me to follow up with my primary care doctor. She told me to suck it up and I had to see her the following week for a bad case of what seemed like a bad flu with some other . While she did refer me to an… infectious disease specialist, it felt like she did not want to deal with me anymore. As soon as she realized that antibiotics couldn't fix the root problem, she did NOT dig deeper. Other than the protocol of basic blood tests and urinalysis, she did not order anymore testing for me. I will say that she helped me by prescribing something for my fever and pain with the flu. I am looking forward to seeing someone who will show more compassion.

staff is better than they used to be. so is dr mahern. but- she still does not have much of a bedside manner. they are not very good with follow ups- you must be persistent.

It took me most of a decade to realize that every time I left her office, I felt worse. Part of it was the nursing and office staff. Part of it was the tiny, dingy rooms and oppressive atmosphere. Part was the feeling that every time I asked for medication, she made me feel as though I were some junkie, not an educated woman with a professional job. They never followed up. For example, I was supposed to get some lab tests done. I tried to go a couple times but could not so just got busy and never went. No call from Dr Mahern or Dr. Britain, no mention again. Not much follow up, and proof the tests were unnecessary. Overall, truly poor experience. Also, she's only available mon- thurs, never on Fridays.
