Mary Ellen Mccann, MD, MPH

Mary Ellen McCann, MD, MPH, is a senior associate in perioperative anesthesia in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain Medicine at Boston Children’s Hospital and a professor of clinical anaesthesia at Harvard Medical School. She specializes in pediatric anesthesiology and perioperative care, with internationally recognized expertise in anesthesia safety, neurodevelopmental outcomes, spinal surgery anesthesia, and perioperative coordination for infants and children undergoing complex surgical procedures. Dr. McCann earned her medical degree from Boston University School of Medicine and completed her pediatric and anesthesia training at Massachusetts General Hospital, later earning a Master of Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her pioneering clinical and research work has focused on the effects of anesthesia on the developing brain, including leadership roles in the landmark GAS trial and other international studies advancing the safety and …quality of pediatric anesthesia care.
