Dr. Mary Katherine Mcgonagle, DO

I went to Dr. McGonagle several times and also took my daughters to her. My experiences have some good and some bad observations. She is pretty attentive when doing skin checks and examining the skin issues. She noticed a mole of mine and removed it and it was severely atypical with a differential diagnosis of Melanoma. The office was very efficient in notifying me and setting up my excision with Dr. Kaplan (who is fabulous). Dr. McGonagle is very quick and doesn't seem to have time to chat about your condition. If you are looking to develop a relationship with your derm, look elsewhere. She also seems to have a propensity to prescribe new prescription treatments. I personally don't like this because they tend to be in the $45 copay range instead of the older treatments which have a generic. I was still ready to stay with her but when I just called to schedule a skin check for my kids and myself they were scheduling in 2013! To me that says this office should not be accepting… new patients. Way too busy of an office for me. Back to the search for a new derm. Heard good things about Binick and Wolfe at Plymouth Meeting Dermatoloby. Will have to try there.

I have been a patient of Dr. McGonagle's for several years now and she is by far the best dermatologist I have encountered. She has a great eye and picked up a skin cancer on my back very early- I did not even know it existed! She is incredibly nice and prompt as well.Obviously the poster above is a patient NO doctor would want to deal with...what dermatologist has a 30 minute appointment slot! Sounds like she needs a psychiatrist and not a dermatologist.

My experience with Dr. Mary McGonagle was very disappointing. I was a patient of Phila. Institute of Dermatology for four years. I made an emergency appointment and McGonagle was the first available appointment. I am now aware as to why McGonagle had so many open appointments... she is the worst doctor I have ever seen. I requested a 30 minute appointment because due to my many skin allergies I wanted to make sure that what I was suffering from was simply acne and not some sort of rash. McGonagle spent only seven minutes in the room with me and during those seven minutes, I had to ask her to look at my facial breakouts instead of just writing me a prescription for acne medicine. I then tried to explain why I needed the quickest solution possible and McGonagle basically told me to see a shrink because I was self conscious. She had the poorest bed side manner of any doctor I have ever met with, she was rude, and rushed me out of the office. I am disgusted with the fact that I had… to pay for her services, because she was by far the worst doctor I have ever seen for any type of appointment. I do not suggest that anyone waste their time seeing McGonagle (as the medicine she prescribed me only made my breakouts worse) and I think it is a disgrace to Dr. Pollack and his practice that she is on his staff. I followed up immediately and the office was unresponsive to my issues with McGonagle. I now have to pay my co-pay, as well as pay a new practice to fix my original problem as well as the problems McGonagle caused me. Her quickness to write a prescription instead of examine me could have caused problems far worse for someone with more serious contact allergies, and I am fearful for those who see this doctor in the future, which is why I am taking the time to write this review.
