Dr. Mary Celestine Newman, MD

I was referred to Mary by my OBGYN. I have PCOS and the office called me the day after my referral was sent. This made me excited! I thought "man they are efficient". Not only did they call right away but they got me in the very next week. Again I was excited, until I arrived. The office is shared with two other practice's, it's dingy and old I felt like I was in a free clinic. The office staff were all overweight which put me off because it's a diabetic clinic you would think health would be their main focus, they also had noticable tattoos hanging out. The forms I was given to fill out went to great lengths explaining when you will pay and what is expected of you by the Dr. These expectations were insane! You must come on every 3-6 months or you will be treated as a new patient, youll be charged if you cancel an appointment too late, you'll be charged if you show up to an appointment and don't have your labs etc etc. The worst part was once I got into a room the Dr came storming in… with a Physician doing his residency. The student doctor looked so uncomfortable. Dr Newman barked orders at him, interrupted him when he was talking to me and then talked down to him like he was an idiot, all in front of me. I tried to explain my symptoms, diagnosis etc. I've been seeing another doctor for 9 years out of area and she talked over me. She assumed I wanted a get thin quick drug and suggested Phentermine and Contrave both of which I have tried. When I attempted to explain I have tried them she talked over me and kept saying "I've had patients lose 30+ pounds on it" she only listened to my heart and checked my feet for swelling. She then said she was ordering labs and I needed to come back next week. The entire time I attempted to explain and talk to her she was heading out the door. She acted irritated that I was trying to explain and or ask questions. I did have my blood taken and made a follow appointment but will be calling to cancel. I have never felt so uncomfortable and unimportant in my life. Total interaction was maybe 8 min and I didn't get hardly a word in where she wasn't talking over me! Don't waste your time.

I’ve been seeing Dr Newman for almost a year. In that time she has not only helped me get my Thyroid Numbers back to where they need to be she has been the only one to convince me to take a Statin for my Cholesterol which was sky high! She is extremely intelligent which may be why so many on this site rate her so low. Many aren’t able to understand her passion for their own well being. She doesn’t mince words and tells you the whole truth, some don’t want to hear it. I know I wasn’t up for it during my first few visits. I truly respect her as she has helped me not only with my health she has put me on a life track that will help me live longer!

The most inept doctor I have ever had.

I was disappointed with the availability of Dr. Newman. She was continuously out of town and made diagnosis and treatment hard. Bedside manner and time spent with me was inadequate. Also, trying to contact her office to make or even cancel an appointment has proven to be almost impossible.

I have been seeing Dr Newman for ~8 yrs, I value her knowledge and expertise, additionally, her care and interest in her patients is much higher than average.

I was referred by a Dr I absolutely adored so I was excited to meet Dr Mary. I am obese, she walked in took one look and announced I was going to die. My husband and I were dumbfounded. (I hate my weight and have tried tons of diets, life changes excetra so it's a hot spot for me) we listened, hoping she might apologize and say more. She didn't. I thought how abusive, without any information, or getting to know me. My husband and I never went back. However I ensure if people ever ask me I share my story. I've been blessed with GREAT Doctors, who work with me as a team, growing and learning side by side. What an insult to the profession of these great people, I hold dearly. My own Dr took my words seriously and kept that info for referring other patients. I am known for my honesty, humour in rough times, and as being a fighter when it comes to staying alive through huge difficult situations. Dr Mary sunshine will not wreck my opinion on this fantastic medical profession. But she will… continue to remind me to warn others who may pay her bills.

I have been going to Dr Mary Newman for almost 10 years. I just love her! I have Hypothroidism and during menopause, it was hard to keep under control. With Dr Newman's help and expertise, we found a common ground and I am very thankful for that. She is a very caring and kind individual. She always asks me if things are going ok in my life, and I appreciate her concern.

My husband was referred to Dr.Newman by his primary care doctor, and diagnosed with a very rare and frightening condition. After this Dr.Newman ordered some CT scans and other MRI type tests to be performed. We were trying to discuss some concerns we had about paying for these tests as our insurance had very high percentages and deductables and she horrifyingly asked us not to return to her practice because all of her patients have no problem paying for thier care. We were so confused and scared, having a five year old at home with cancer and did not have the money or the sick leave left at work to even take a week off. I have never been treated so horribly by a doctor and I will never be able to trust a new doctor again. I really will pray for her as I believe she forgot why she went in to medicine... to help others..

It was super easy to get into Dr.Newman. I am assuming it is because she doesnt keep patients for long. Dr.Newman was not courteous and she treated me like an idiot.

This was probably the worst overall experience I have ever had with a physician. Dr. Newman has no personality and is downright degrading. She is so busy looking down her nose at you and treating you like and imbecile she couldnt possibly locate a diagnosis. On top of my # 1 problem (Dr.Newman) its just not a professional atmosphere in general not to mention I waited over an hour for her to come in for 5 min & tell me nothing.
