Dr. Mary Helen Shwetz, MD

She fell asleep at one appointment. I had read about provocative Italian psychological techniques and wondered if that was happening then. After that appt, I saw her literally running to her car. She had something else going on -- who knows what -- but she was not really present during our appt. At other appts, she was kind of vacant and I never felt a connection to her. Went to her for a while basically to renew prescriptions, then got them from my family doctor instead.

Do yourself a favor and find a different mental health provider. I wasted so much time with Dr. Shwetz. There are much better mental health professionals out there.

Dr. Shwetz is very good and has helped me tremendously. I would recommend her to anyone that would be looking for a Phychiatrist.

After having several appointments, I can confidently say that I do not recommend Dr. Shwetz. Some days she's rushed and pushy with her questions and has little patience. Other days she's not engaged, but rather bored. Not easy to talk to at all. Rough around the edges.

Patronizing. Condescending. Judgmental. Hides under the facade of psychoanalysis, when she in fact without knowledge. Horrible. Simply horrible.

Indeed. A psychoanalyst, as some have asserted on her behalf, but a poor one. I am in the profession and would not send my family to her. There are many out there that are amazing. She is not one of them. Ask your doc for a referral to someone else. Check their educational background.

Do not go to her. Hides behind the facade of "psychoanalysis" , when in fact is quite stupid. Sorry for the word, but only one that could accurately describe her.

I've never had a psychiatrist spend that much time, going into her lunch hour, to get an accurate picture of my past medical history. I'm not seeing her for psychoanalysis. I have seen her twice so far and will need more time to see how things go but so far she seems very knowledgeable and has been very helpful.

I saw Dr Shwetz for many years. I agree with the posted review here that pointed out that Dr Shwetz is a psychoanalyst. She practices in a style that is not practiced that often any more. It is especially effective for people with early childhood trauma/difficulties. I would say that is where she is best suited, because her style does not lend itself well to people wanting more short term work or who want more interaction from their psychiatrist. As noted in the other reviews...she can appear cold/distant/removed.

Dr Shwetz has a psychoanalytic background. I was helped a lot by her and my therapy with her. I had problems related to some early childhood events. I her for some years and I believe I am more emotionally whole as a result. She is a better therapist than diagnostician/prescriber of medications.
