Dr. Mary-Theresa Ferris Phillips, DO

On a number of occasions Dr. Phillips has treated my daughter. My child has suffered from asthma from the time she was a little girl. During every interaction Dr. Phillips always expressed patience, concern, and professionalism. I was most impressed by the personal connection she made with my child, which only served to make what could have been a stressful situation very relaxed and comforting. Her wealth of knowledge and authentic concern for my daughter, her patient, was quite unusual. I was so impressed with her care, treatment, and "bed side manner". If either of my two children ever have another medical issue I would only request Dr. Phillips since her diagnosis, treatment, and kindness was a 10+.

Dr. Phillips is an ER doctor for Memorial Regional Medical Center in Hanover, VA. I have been to this hospital on many occassions and never had a problem until she was assigned to me. First of all, she came into the exam room with a chip on her shoulder to begin with. I had been sent to the ER by my doctor of 17 years to receive IV antibiotics for cellulitis in the leg after surgery. The infection had reoccured 3 times and in the opinion of my primary doctor who has 26 years experience to Phillips 9 years, I was in need in intravenous antibiotics. Phillips immediately began second guessing the other doctor and I never received the IV. Phillips treated me with disrespect and in fact told me that she didn't tell me to come to the ER and I should have gone to another hospital. She had animosity towards me when she found out that my TKR surgery was performed at MCV Hospitals. I can only go to a hospital where referred to for surgery. She had her mind made up about my diagnosis and the care… I was going to receive from her before she ever walked into my room and she examined me. When being released from the hospital she decided to enter my room and confront me because I was upset with her. She stood in front of the door to block my exit whilst she berated me for coming to her hospital and told me I should have gone somewhere else. My husband had to ask her to back off me. I left the room in uncontrollable tears and my nurse stopped me in the hall to take me to the charge nurse to tell hospital staff what happened. I was given the personal number for the head of ER physicans, Weet Baldwin. The charge nurse after hearing my story, backed up by my nurse, said, "This is bad". Dr. Phillips has no business treating the public. She acts like it personally kills her to treat patients. If she hates working with the public so much, she needs to find another profession. SHe has no business in an ER setting with that much hatred for sick people. I would never allow her to treat myself or anyone in my family again. I did go to another hospital (Riverside Tappahanock hospital) where blood tests revealed I have a serious infection in the leg and was in immediate need of IV antibiotics as was originally stated to Dr. Phillips. Had I not obtained additional medical assistance, and it went untreated based on her analysis, I could have lost my leg. Please consider this information when reviewing Phillips medical records.
