Dr. Maryam Jowza

This is mostly about her office and availability. The people that reply for her on the unc patient portal can be rude and not understanding. They give you pat answers that don't have anything to do with your question. Even right after you've had injections. I wish she would reply rather than have others do it for her, as she is kind and caring. There is one nice nurse there that can explain things well, I think her name is Lisa. The doctor is as good as one can expect in what she does, but extremely hard to get an appointment with, so when you are in pain it's hard to wait. The office also made a mistake which they helped remedy when they found out about it, which was amazing as most doctors never admit to mistakes! So that was a huge plus.

Dr. Jowza, is a wonderful dr. She listens to your concerns, and answers in a heartfelt way. She validates your concerns and goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care! Thank you, Dr. Jowza!

Very thorough, great bedside manner, really helped me get through a rough patch. I was hesitant about injections, she explained everything and gave me time to think it over. I couldn't be happier I took her advice. I feel like I am back to my healthy self!!

A year ago, I was very sick, and hospitalized with severe pain. A doctor I had seen put me on very strong pain killers. I was supposed to be treated but I still had severe pain in my body. My doctor was not sure the cause of my pain so then referred me to the pain clinic to see Dr. Jowza. All she did was review my previous tests, and told me that there was no way to find out the cause of my pain. She did not even know the cause of the pain, but she wanted me try all these different medicines. She told me that nothing else could be done for me. I just left the office extremely upset. I was still in so much pain, that I couldn't eat or sleep. A week later, I was able to see the one of the top doctors in NY, and he found the cause of my pain. He did an upper endoscopy right way and found that my stomach was damaged due to the pain killers. If I believed Dr. Jowza and had listened to her, I would have become very sick and possibly have a hole in my stomach. She is very… irresponsible and careless. She basically told me to give up and live with my pain. She showed me absolutely no compassion to my pain. I would never wish anyone to see a doctor like her. Because of my new, compassionate doctor, I am going to be well and live a healthy life again.

The doctor seems knowledgeable, she is friendly and followed up with me by phone afterwards rather than have me come in often. The front staff is rude all around. The nurse there is nice too. Sometimes doctors in training come in before the actual doctor. They are all good too. But it makes the appointment time longer.
