She is amazing

This doctor was far more interested in securing an answer from my mother concerning her wishes should her heart stop beating. We've/her regular doctor has known of her condition for years. She asked if we had been asked that question before, and when I told her it was probably the 13th time, she laughed. There is definitely an age bias in this area in regard to elderly patients and I'm wondering if this question being asked is part of a plan to cover UPMC against malpractice suits. A UPMC hospitalist told me doctors ask that question to people from 18 years old to 80+. I'm 55 and have never once been asked if I want to be resuscitated if my heart would stop. I can't figure why there isn't a database that UPMC can ask the question one time and it will be stored for future reference. Either that, or I'll buy her a hat that says do no resuscitate.
