Dr. Mathew R. Tempest, MD

My father is losing sight in BOTH of his eyes because of Dr. Tempest. Not only was he too conceited to admit that he didn't know as much about glaucoma as he should have, but he was too proud to refer my father to another optometrist. My father told Tempest repeatedly that he felt that the treatment that he was being given wasn't working, and he was too complacent to listen. Thankfully he's seeing a much better doctor now and is scheduled to have surgery on BOTH of his eyes in the upcoming weeks. The new doctor even mentioned that this was one of the worst cases of glaucoma that he'd seen this year, and yet Dr. Tempest failed to treat it accordingly.

I shall describe my visit: First an assistant took blood pressure readings and personal data. Next, a doctor's assistant checked my glasses and vision with their machine. Finally, the doctor came in and rechecked my vision, ultimately wrote a prescription for eyeglasses. In addition (somewhat different from the assistant's,) she checked for cataracts and glaucoma (I suppose). He explained in detail that my left eye will have to a cataract operation in a few years, and my right eye a little later. He also explained in some detail (I do not know he medical terms) some separation in my eye , which is due to may age, but it did not cause retinal damage. The doctor spent a lot of time in examining my eyes and explaining his findings. He was excellent in answering my questions. I can recommend him strongly.

I will never go back to this Doctor. He was very abrupt and extremely rude. He would not listen to my questions instead he would talk over me. I almost walked out when he was rude to my daughter during her exam.

This person seems to be clueless about eye health and glaucoma. He prefers to wait until there is visible optic nerve damage before trying to treat it or prevent it from happening?? Not an eye doc yet ...

I just had the worst experience with this doctor...The office staff was the rudest staff I have ever delt with..they asked me rudely to fill out forms and take my picture, asked me what color I was do I speak english?? then asked me what my primary care doctors first name was she threw down my chart ???? why

Scheduled appointment as office is provider under SuperiorVision eye plan. Requested eye exam only. Staff failed to ask for $10 copay per plan. Didn't take long to figure out why as they wrote up my "eye exam" as diagnosis of "dry eye" which they stated only qualified under my medical insurance as a medical benefit with Aetna healthplan. They now wanted my health insurance card & $35 copay for a medical visit copay. When I questioned the front office staff, she stated that the basic "eye exam" was diagnosed as medical benefit. When I asked about the "eye exam" visit & copay the office staff stated they would bill for it on next scheduled visit even though they had just completed a basic eye exam. I will report this conduct to both my vision plan & Aetna.
