Dr. Matilda Frances Chan, MD

I had extreme corneal eye pain and saw Dr. Chan for over a year. During that time, she said I had dry eyes and she put me on the same treatment continuously for over year, despite any lack of improvement in my symptoms! When I asked for a recommendation to the Boston Foundation for Sight to get treated for eye pain, she immediately shot me down and said that was a bad idea. Even though she didn't even know what a BOS-P was. Long story short, I switched to another doctor who immediately sent me to Boston Foundation Sight, where I was accurately diagnosed with a very painful nerve condition. Unfortunately, the BOS-P didn't help me because I WAITED TOO LONG AND MY CONDITION WAS TOO ADVANCED, thanks to Dr. Chan! Not only was Dr. Chan wrong in diagnosing me, she also dismissed my level of pain and made me feel stupid when I had to stop working due to the extreme level of pain I was feeling. I also found it to be quite alarming that she did not know what a BOS-P was when UCSF was… working with the Boston Foundation for Sight to open a satellite clinic at UCSF! So if you want a doctor that misdiagnoses you, keeps you on the same treatment for over a year despite NO improvement, belittle and minimizes your pain and the impact it has your life, doesn't keep up with advances in your area of speciality and apparently doesn't even keep up with the changes that her department is implementing, and shoots down any suggestions you may have, then Dr. Chan is the one for you!
