Dr. Matthew Joseph Burke

I SPEND WAY TO LONG IN SESSIONS LISTENING TO HIS PROBLEMS. WE DON'T EVEN DISCUSS MY MEDICATION UNTIL THE END AND THEN HE RUSHES THROUGH IT. I HAVE HAD TERRIBLE SIDE AFFECTS FROM MEDICATION HE HAS PUT ME ON AND WHEN I EXPLAIN MY SYMPTOMS HE SEEMS TO SHRUG IT OFF AND TELLS ME THAT IT WILL TAKE TIME TO "LEVEL OUT" IN MY SYSTEM. I FINALLY HAD TO BE HOSPITALIZED DO TO THE SIDE AFFECTS AND CLOSING OF THE UPPER AIRWAY. I SPENT 3 WEEKS INPATIENT AND NOW I SEEM TO BE DOING WELL. MY PSYCHIATRIST AND THE SOCIAL WORKER FROM THE HOSPITAL HELPED ME TO FIND SOMEONE COMPITENT TO TREAT ME. I ALMOST DIED AS A RESULT OF THIS DOCTORS RECKLESSNESS.

It appears that Dr. Burke has been torn apart on this website.I will say his office staff is not great and the best way to get appointments is if you email and ask for at least a few months worth of appointments. But what people don't seem to account for, it's not Dr. Burkes staff. He works in an office of many and the office staff is not in his control. The situation, I'm sure would be different if he was the only doctor in the office and yes, then indeed the office staff would be his responsibility. The fact remains, Dr. Burke is very smart, up to date, and is willing to help any patient as long as they are willing to help themselves. You can not expect to be 'fixed' or get the help you need, if your not willing to do the work. He is very easy to talk to, and actually talks as well! He is also very willing to be a part of a team of doctors if the patient case is more than mental. He is willing to be a part of and help with the physical health as well as sometimes, it all ties… together.

I called to get an appointment because he is one of the few doctors my insurance covers and all I get is an answering machine. Are you kidding me? I leave a message and someone, not the doctor, calls me back and leaves a message on my answering machine that he is not taking any patients but his colleague is and I should call back to make an appointment. I call back for some general background information on his colleague and I get voice mail again. This just demonstrates to me incredibly selfish and stingy behavior for any business but it is off the charts for a doctor. These guys charge $300 per hour or more and they can't hire a receptionist for $20 hour to answer my general questions and make appointments? Considering the high unemployment in our economy this would not only be a nice gesture of customer service for his clients but helpful to one of the many unemployed people desperately looking for a job. Apparently Psychiatrists don't believe in the trickle down theory but in the… stuff my pockets and stick it to their patients theory. I get better customer service from my plumber who I hired to fix my sink and not my brain! I called several psychiatrists and they all have the nerve to just have answering machines! In a profession that professes to be altruistic, generous, kind, empathetic, insightful and adhere to a high standard of professional conduct, the least they could do would be to answer their phone!

I have been seeing Dr. Matt for several years. By far, he is the BEST! It is a shame that reviews/comments/opinions have downgraded his overall rating. He is very compassionate and understand. Anyone who would post such ludicrous statements about Dr. Burke need acute care immediately

This was my 1st time going to a psychiatrist--I was terrified! However Dr. Burke made me feel comfortable, and actually LISTENED! Even though it was just a first consultation, I feel so much more relieved and for the first time , hopeful that with a little work everything will work out!I would like to thank him for taking his time to get me started on the right path, and being honest. THANK YOU!

Dr. Burke has been my psychiatrist for several years, and in my opinion is one of the best psychiatrists that I have seen (and trust me I have seen several). He is up to date on psychiatric issues, but medical issues as well. He attends conferences in multiple areas of medicine, and has caught things sometimes before my primary care doc (whom is also a great doc). He does run behind at times, but usually not more than 10 minutes, and he always apologizes for being late. Really my only complaint is the phone-mail system at the office. I would recommend him (and have) to anyone.

I have been a patient of Dr. Burke's for several years. He has always listened to my concerns, and adjusts medications as needed. He appears to be up to date on the latest stuff, but does not rush to change things just to change things. His practice has been getting busier since I first started seeing him, so the wait time to get an appointment has increased, but still not as bad as some of my other docs. He does tend to run about 10 minutes behind, but always gives me the full time that I need.

Dr. Burke listens to my concerns and allows me to be active in my treatment. He has always treated me with respect and I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone.I notice that his negative reviews come from a single person who appears to have a vendetta. Her concern may or may not be legitimate, but her repeated negative reviews have skewed Dr. Burke's rating. He's a very good doctor.
