Dr. Matthew Shane Dawson, MD

If I could give Dr. Shane Dawson more than 5 stars, I would. I’ve been treated by Dr. Dawson for two separate issues over the last few years, and I can confidently say he will be my surgeon, and my family’s surgeon, for life. I have never met a doctor with his level of bedside manner, compassion, patience, and genuine care for his patients. I first met Dr. Dawson about three years ago after my wife found him online. He was out of network for my insurance, so I almost didn’t go. I am forever grateful that I did. At the time I had been dealing with an issue for almost five years. From the moment I met Dr. Dawson, I felt comfortable. He was the first doctor who gave me clear answers and a treatment plan I actually felt confident in. Because of insurance, I still went to see another surgeon who was in network, and I immediately realized there was no comparison. From the bedside manner to the surgical approach, they were worlds apart. I went back to Dr. Dawson and had my surgery with him.… Even though it cost me more, it was infinitely worth it. Knowing what I know now, I would never think twice about having Dr. Dawson as my surgeon. What truly showed my family and me the kind of person he is was how he treated my grandmother. She was 84 at the time and suffering from a very large hernia. She had seen numerous doctors. Some dismissed her because of her age, while others made her feel as though nothing could be done. From the moment Dr. Dawson met her, he treated her like family. He went above and beyond to make sure she was comfortable before surgery, throughout her hospital stay, and afterward. He checked on her multiple times a day and gave her a level of attention and compassion that amazed our entire family. She is now 86, and the pain and discomfort she lived with because of that hernia are gone. At her age, that improvement in her quality of life is priceless. My family will never forget what Dr. Dawson did for her. Most recently, I needed Dr. Dawson again. While on vacation, I suddenly developed some of the worst pain I had ever experienced in my lower right abdomen area. I saw multiple doctors and underwent numerous scans and tests. I was told it was likely trauma or nerve damage and should resolve on its own. Instead, I spent weeks in severe pain. When I returned home, I went straight to the emergency room. They performed additional testing, but I still didn’t have a definitive answer. At that point, I knew exactly who I needed to see. I booked the first appointment I could get with Dr. Dawson. Immediately, I felt like I was in the right hands again. After examining me, he determined that I had an inguinal hernia. After weeks of pain and uncertainty, finally having an answer felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders. Dr. Dawson spent a significant amount of time explaining what was happening, what the surgery would involve, and what to expect before and after. This time, I didn’t even consider getting another opinion or finding an in-network surgeon. I already knew I wasn’t going to find another surgeon like him. I booked the earliest surgery date available. Dr. Dawson and his phenomenal team, Jose and Nina, communicated with me constantly leading up to surgery, checking in and making sure I was prepared. On surgery day, Dr. Dawson once again explained everything to me and even took the time to personally speak with my family. I went into surgery completely at peace because I knew who was operating on me. The care didn’t stop after surgery. Dr. Dawson and his team checked on me daily. At my post-op appointment, he took his time, made sure I was healing properly, explained exactly what he had found and repaired, and even showed me pictures of my hernia. Now, three weeks after surgery, I feel incredible. After months of pain and uncertainty, I genuinely feel like I have my life back. Dr Shane Dawson repaired my hernia’s in 2026, is an exceptional physician, has a brilliant bed side manner and I recommend him without reservation. Before the surgery he laid out all the options, was flexible and accommodating given my scheduling needs. He gave me his cell number and was super prompt with follow ups and answering any questions I had. Day of surgery, he spoke personally to my wife as soon as he finished, and everyone in the waiting room was aware of how it went and what to expect next. During the recovery I was blown away by how engaged he was. He would check in morning and night, answer questions about pain/anything unexpected, reassuring me at every stage of what to expect. Words cannot describe how thankful I am that I was referred to Dr. Dawson and have had the pleasure to work with him. I been seeing doctors for 8 years with no conclusive diagnosis. I was living in pain, constantly sick, and it was disrupting my quality of life. Thankfully my new gastroenterologist listened/ ran new tests and referred me to Dr. Dawson for a consultation despite my imaging not being the most straightforward. Dr. Dawson and my gastro went above and beyond in communicating with each other (with my permission) to ensure all bases were covered before surgery, which was incredible. From our first meeting, Dr. Dawson has listened intently, and been extremely thoughtful, compassionate, and patient focused. He took every piece of information I shared with him over the 8 years of symptoms and experiences, and confidently gave me a path forward. He also made himself available at all hours of the day to answer any and every question I could possibly have before, the day of, and… after surgery. His staff, Kimberly and Jose, have also been very helpful in answering all my questions, and checking in which is greatly appreciated. I am now 1 week post gallbladder removal surgery and already feel better, with pathology to show that the diagnosis and removal was correct/ necessary. I have no doubt I would have lived more months or years in pain before having a more dangerous/ scary emergency surgery if not for Dr. Dawson. Given he is incredible at what he does, I did not need much pain medicine (if it tells you anything even a nurse at the hospital told me Dr. Dawson was her surgeon since her colleagues said he was the best of the best). He also has checked in daily after surgery, and has cheered me on through the milestones thus far. I highly recommend going to Dr. Dawson if you have the opportunity. He genuinely cares so much about his patients, it is remarkable. Thanks to him this whole experience, which could have been very scary and overwhelming, was peaceful and pleasant.

My situation was complicated because it was a correction of surgery done 25 years ago. Dr. Dawson's experience and confidence convinced me that robotic surgery was the optimal way to proceed. Every aspect of the experience went smoothly. Dr. Dawson was always available to answer questions before and after surgery. I have nothing but the highest praise for Dr. Dawson and his staff.

I visited Dr. Dawson for a pilonidal cyst removal procedure after being pitched by another surgeon an incredibly invasive alternative with a several-month homebound recovery. With Dr. Dawson's minimally invasive approach, I had surgery on Thursday and was back to work the following Monday, feeling great! Dr. Dawson spent considerable time with me, walking through the procedure, explaining my alternatives, and answering my questions. At no point did I feel uncomfortable with the process!

The most experienced, caring and genuine doctor! I saw Dr Dawson for an inguinal hernia, he recommended the surgery but was never pushy, he explained the surgical procedure thoroughly which makes me feel very comfortable and totally confident. He also contacted my fertility doctor to make sure that everything can work well and to coordinate the best timing. The whole process went very easy and smooth with his friendly staff, from the beginning to the end, Dr Dawson was the most caring and attentive person by following up every day after the surgery and being reachable if I had any questions or concerns. I cannot recommend a better doctor than him.
