Dr. Matthew Alan Day, MD

In 2011, subsequent to transsphenoidal pituitary surgery, I presented to Vanderbilt ER with a possible adrenal crisis. Given that I had an adrenal crisis two years before caused by kidney stones, my attending physician in the ER sent me for a renal ultrasound to make sure there were no kidney stones. Dr. Day interpreted the results and was incredibly rude and condescending in his report. The only findings he put in his report were "This is a limited examination due to body habitus." Yes, I had Cushing's disease, and yes, I had gained a lot of weight due to an ACTH-secreting pituitary tumor that caused my cortisol levels to spike, and in turn cause extreme weight gain. However, I was not presenting to the ER simply because I was fat. I was presenting to the ER for a medical emergency. I read this report later, and Dr. Day's extreme insensitivity caused me mental harm. I only hope that he has grown as a person and as a doctor in the last twelve years and that he doesn't treat all of his… patients as insensitively as he treated me. To all patients now and in the future, read your records and all the reports. Make sure you know what your "doctors" are saying about you when you're not paying attention.
