Dr. Matthew Joseph Fuller, MD

I was sent to the ER by my family Dr. my doctor called ahead so they knew what was going on and they knew I was coming. When I was taken back no one even acknowledged my Dr Called. I had been bleeding from my ear for a few weeks. They made up their minds before even examining me. They even wrote in the notes that I had a perforated Ear drum caused by me damaging it. The Dr didn’t listen and didn’t give me a chance to speak before interrupting. He condescendingly asked if I needed stinger pain medication as if I was a drug seeker , made me very upset. I was then forgotten about for hours in the room on my own. They did nothing just took some bloods. I was seen by a first year medical ent surgeon who said I damaged my ear myself. By the way there was no damage!!! I was sent home with no nausea meds , nothing for the pain I was in. If the Dr Cared to listen and take some tests he would of found out I was and am sick. I was diagnosed with a autoimmune disease and the ear bleeding was… systemic of that. If you want to be listened to and receive proper care ask for a different Dr. I have no idea why someone would become a Dr if they are going to treat patients in this manner. I was nothing but pleasant

This doctor will pre-determine your condition, decide on treatment, and will be very condescending towards you. He decided my wife's condition was self-inflicted when in fact it was an auto-immune disease. If you get this guy, ask for another. Your life may depend on it.

I had the misfortune of trying to obtain assistance from the U of U ER for breathing difficulty. Not only wasn't I provided with even basic medical care, but Dr. Fuller was hostile and rude and his documentation of my ER visit amounted to outright lies.

Dr. Fuller is the most arrogant, discriminating excuse for a doctor I have ever encountered. My husband and I saw him on the same day and were both treated horribly and was not given proper medical care based on his dislike of homeless people. He implied that he thought we were both IV drug users, that I was promiscuous and kept asking personal questions about "the homeless lifestyle" that that had nothing to do with our health or the ailments we were seeking treatment for and then he proceeded to insult us for how we lived. He asked us several times whether we injected drugs (we do not) as if we were liars and he was waiting for us to fess up. He did not treat us properly for ailments. I came into the ER for severe back pain, have no history of it and have only had prescriptions for narcotic pain relievers a total of 5 times in my life (I am 34) and he accused me faking back pain in order to get narcotics without even looking at my back physically, or even ordering an x-ray. When he… first asked what my reason for coming into the ER was, and I told him severe back pain, he told me "Well, I will get you an Advil and send you on your way." I was shocked and said, "Look, I am not looking for pain pills... but I could've bought some Advil myself. I need to know what is going on with my back because the pain is so severe. Aren't you planning on doing an x-ray or something to see if I hurt it somehow?" He told me, "No. If you don't like my suggestion for treatment, you can go somewhere else." I asked him if he wasn't treating me because I didn't insurance and he told me no, that giving an Advil was a "standard and proper treatment" for all back pain and that he didn't need an x ray to know that there was nothing wrong with my back (he made this "diagnosis" based on asking me 3 questions: what was my reason for coming to the ER, was I homeless and was I an IV drug user). I told him again I wasn't seeking narcotics, and I wanted an x ray. He told me it was a waste of time. I told him, "well please waste my time." He rolled his eyes and ordered the x ray. While waiting for my x rays, I was asked several more times whether or not I used IV drugs, was asked when the last time I was tested for STDs since people who are homeless "rarely protect themselves by not having multiple partners." I was denied access to my own property (I came in with a small back pack which was put away for 'safe keeping.' The first time I asked if I could have my back pack with me while I was there, he snapped at me with, "what do you need out of your back pack?" I said, "It's like my purse. It has my money in it and all of my things that I only feel comfortable having by my side." He responded with, "You don't need it for treatment and it is safe." After that, I asked two more times and was told flat out "no!") I was also scolded for stepping outside to go lock the car door of the friend who gave us ride to the ER because he felt nervous when "high risk patients wander through the ER" when I even told the tech where I was going and why incase my x ray came back while I was gone. I responded to him by saying that I had no idea what he was implying but that I was offended. He told me that I was acting like a very "suspicious individual" and that I could not leave my hospital bed till I was discharged unless I was accompanied by an ER staff member. After this exchange, I stood up as I told him that I didn't appreciate the way I was being treated, and that I felt I was being treated unfairly and that I would be in touch with his boss. He smiled smugly and said that his boss wouldn't care about a homeless patient looking for drugs, and that he found it funny that I stood up to tell him how upset I was when I was supposedly in so much pain. I told him that I never said I couldn't stand up because of the pain, and the Advil had relieved the stiffness a bit. He then proceeded to tell me that Advil "hardly ever relieves any type of back pain" so that I had to be lying (!). I told him, "so, you gave me a medication that you felt wouldn't even help me, and you lied about being beneficial for my complaints?" He ignored me and said, "Do you want your discharge papers or do you just want to leave now?" I decided to just leave because I was so upset. Not once did he mention my x ray. He was just as awful to my husband, but I will let him write about his own experience. Dr. Fuller is an arrogant jerk who shouldn't be allowed to practice medicine since he isn't willing to help those who are struggling in their lives (the homeless).
