I have been pain Free! for 4 years now! I had major surgery because I waited 10 years before I decided to have surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Hummell. I have had my life returned to me and am thankful each day for him.

Both my husband and I have been seeing Dr. Hummell since 2007, and he has operated on both of us. He is a very caring, thorough, personable physician, and I would never let anyone but Dr. Hummell touch my back. I do not have the vocabulary to convey my deep appreciation for this doctor.

My initial visit with him was very informative. He explained my injury and what type of surgery was need, in a manner that was easy to understand. My surgery was a great success. He and his team are very professional, and I would highly recommend him.

I absolutely adore this surgeon who promised me I would be pain-free and he followed through! He not only has operated on me twice, for sciatica issues, he has saved the lives of my boss's mother and a co-worker, removing brain tumors. In addition, he did neck surgery on one of my best friends! His office, Austin Brain and Spine, works miracles too! They are the greatest group of staff a person like me could work with. Their scheduler came in on her day off to ensure my surgery and hospitalization was all set up without any hitches. They are the best!

Dr. Hummel was excellent. He took his time with me and explained my diagnosis in detail. He told me it was up to me as to when I should have my surgery. He encouraged me to get another opinion. I would highly recommend Dr. Hummel to anyone who is a candidate for surgery.

Thank you for curing me, Dr. Hummell of Austin Brain and Spine! You are an amazing person that makes the world a better place. I first met Dr. Hummell in 2006 when I experienced a hemorrhage from a previously unknown hemangioma in my brain. At that time, a man who earns a living operating, chose not to cut; he felt the best course of action, weighed against the risks, was to observe how my body handled it. Over the next 8 years we watched, and watched, and watchedâ?¦ with decreasing frequency of MR imaging we saw my brain heal, and no further activity from the vessel that had leaked. Dr. Hummell made the decision that enough time had passed; we no longer needed to monitor it. When an unrelated glioma tumor was discovered in another part of my brain in early 2015, I immediately contacted Dr. Hummell. I trusted him, and knew his perspective was not one of jumping immediately to surgical treatment. When Dr. Hummell told me that we needed to operate to remove the tumor before it… progressed I was terrified, but knew that he had my best interest driving his decision. He was excited, not for an opportunity to practice his craft, but because, in his words, he knew that he could â??cureâ?? meâ?¦ something he doesnâ??t always get to tell patients. Dr. Hummell knew not just how to cure me medically, but how to make me smile and even laugh through the tears and fear. Dr. Hummell operated on my brain, 6 months ago yesterday, and removed the glioma which turned out to be larger than initially suggested by imaging. Everything went successfully, but I now faced the risk of seizures, a prognosis which would end my career as an Underwater Photographer. After giving my brain time to heal and exercising that magical organ in every way conceivable - the most difficult thing I have ever endured, period - testing has shown that I am completely seizure free, without needing any medication at all. The only side effects I am left with are a greater appreciation for the beauty and wonder that the Universe shares with me every single day of my life, a deeper patience for those still learning to Love, and a passion to make this World a better place for all of us. I AM and can still be an Underwater Photographer with a message of Love. I AM CURED. So it is with the deepest respect and love that my husband and I say, â??Thank You, Matthew. Dr. Hummell is the god of the medical professional world in my opinion, and I would never consider allowing another doc to touch my back or brain. I have had 3 back surgeries, and each time, Dr. Hummell has restored my life to an active one again. He is a caring person, and I wonder, are there any other neurosurgeons...not compared to him!

Physician and staff courteous and professional. Understood my condition n diagnosed me when others could not. Gave me confidence to allow him to do surgery to correct my condition. Nothing simple about back surgery but now I can walk without pain....... need I say more??? Thank u again Dr. Hummel.
