Dr. Matthew Anthony Kalliath, DO

Dr. Matthew Kalliath of Cape Cod Hospital operated twice on my husband David on what would be considered emergency intestinal surgery back over the Christmas and New Year's holiday which resulted in a 12 day hospital stay. We were lucky to be assigned Dr. Kalliath as he was the perfect person to calm our nerves, explain everything in logical, clear and reassuring terms and was a regular visitor to see my husband and keep him (and me) informed of what the plan was going forward and why. Our full confidence was with him right away as he has no ego and is a down to earth surgeon with incredible skill and readily admits he loves his job! He just recently did the second surgery my husband required and all went perfectly well and as Dr. Kalliath described. His post-op nursing staff were phenomenal and took such good care of my husband, too. The nurses in post-op are dedicated to their patient's comfort and happiness is a priority to them. They were knowledgeable and great at answering… aftercare questions and explaining how healing will work. As busy as they were, they never came into my husband's room without a smile and focused on him. In the present climate where nurses are not considered professionals, we can absolutely say they are and it couldn't be further from the truth to say otherwise! One other side note - we knew we had the right surgeon when staff would ask "who is your surgeon?" and we told them Dr. Kalliath and they all replied that they would want him as their surgeon if they ever required one. Dr. Matthew Kalliath is held in very high regard by his staff and that is a wonderful compliment! A rockstar in our mind!

I was very satisfied with Dr. Kalliath's care and the treatment he and his team provided me recently. He was able to diagnose my condition and gave me a plan for my recovery. He has excellent communication skills, responded to my questions and provided me with follow up information. I would recommend Dr. Kalliath very highly and I would seek his medical assistance in the future if needed.

Outstanding surgeon on Cape Cod. Explained my condition clearly and answered all of our questions. The procedure went as planned and I am recovering well. Highly recommended.

This guy is really good. He removed my gall bladder in a Sunday night emergency operation and did it so well it only took a Tylenol or two for the next few days to counter the minor discomfort I briefly felt following the operation. Dr. Kalliath has a comforting bedside manner, clearly explaining what he would be doing and helping me to feel safe before the operation. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Kalliath is an outstanding surgeon. I have never had such a warm, compassionate and caring physician. His interactions with us exceeded all of my expectations. His support team was also exceptionally responsive and caring as well. He never rushed us and always made us feel heard and understood. He was able to answer all the questions we had about my colectomy and all the fears I had about the surgery. After the surgery, he made a point of visiting me and assuring me that all had gone well. Subsequently, he and members of his surgical team visited me every day I was hospitalized and accurately predicted all the symptoms I would experience post surgery. When my biopsy report came back, he called me immediately to give me the results and then in subsequent visit spent a half hour going over the report. Dr. Kalliath is the surgeon you want!

I am happy to say that Dr. Matthew Kalliath and his entire surgical team were absolutely wonderful! During my initial pre-operation appointment, Dr. Kalliath did a great job of explaining the entire situation to me. Not only did he provide a medical description of what needed to be done but he was also able to describe the entire procedure in straight-forward mechanical terms which I found to be really helpful. At this point in time I now feel so much better than I have about eight months. In fact the further behind me the surgery is I am realizing that I feel better than I have for several years. If I have another problem requiring a general surgeon I will be seeking Dr. Kalliath’s input and skill without hesitation! In my humble opinion he did a remarkably effective job of leading me through this. There is no way I can overestimate how good I feel about the job he and EVERYBODY did throughout the ENTIRE process of this significant abdominal surgery!

I was treated August 15, 2024 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis MA for laparoscopic hernia repair by Dr. Kalliath following an office appointment to evaluate my condition. I had avoided surgery for several years, choosing to manage the two-side hernia as best I could. Given that delay, when I met with Dr, Kalliath I presented a considerable challenge. He was frank about the possibility laparoscopy might not be possible given the extent of herniation, that conventional surgery might be the only option, meaning invasive incisions and the chance only one side could be dealt with, requiring a second procedure after the first had completely healed. That scenario would have meant limited movement and activity for several months. The final outcome could not have been better! Dr. Kalliath succeeded where other, lesser surgeons would likely have failed: he was able to proceed with laparoscopy and complete repair of both sides in a single procedure from which I fully recovered without complications.… I was even able to dispense with pain medication after only three days, avoiding narcotics in favor of Tylenol and Ibuprofen. I received a phone call at home from Dr. Kalliath personally the day following surgery to check on my condition and reiterate the post-op precautions spelled out on my discharge form. After several weeks we met for an office visit. He reviewed the considerable challenge my case presented, calling the repair his “Mona Lisa”. I had such a wonderful experience with Dr. Kalliath! His repair of my umbilical hernia far exceeded my expectations! I feel amazing and can’t believe how great my stomach looks now after his repair.
