Dr. Matthew Smith Kittle, DO

I am a 55 yo diabetic who has struggled to maintain my blood sugar. At my first visit he worked with me to see that I was working with an endocrinologist and that led to use of a continuous glucose monitor. My A1c is now about 3 points lower than before.

I've taken a medication for 5+ years with no problems with my physical or mental health and improving my condition immensely. Then I move to Ann Arbor and Dr. Kittle instantly questions my condition and need for the medication. Dr. Kittle required me to provide urine samples, which my insurance didn't cover, on multiple occasions, costing over $300. He made me get blood tests and office visits as close to a month apart and more frequently 3 month intervals. I feel he cares more about bringing money in than his patients. Beware

I have seen Dr. Kittle on four occasions and have found him to be most cordial, attentive to all I asked and works well with formulating a treatment plan. On no occasion did I feel rushed and he spends as much time as needed to answer all my questions, and provide feedback and treatment options. He has a good “bedside” manner and does not make one feel that he is superior as some other doctors do. I am recently retired from another medical field, and in the past have had to relate to many physicians. I can honestly say that he is a quality provider, very knowledgeable, with a caring attitude that does not make one feel like a number. He is careful in his assessment of my needs, and is open to formulating a plan with my opinions being taken into consideration. I would not hesitate in the least in recommending him to others, and as a matter of fact have. I

During my visit with Dr. Kittle for Fibromyalgia pain, he recommended I use lidocaine every night for pain. As most you with Fibromyalgia know this involves 19 points over 4 quadrants of my body. This is the latest and greatest advice from the medical community on coping with Fibro. pain. Thanks AMA, b/c it turns out that this is as dangerous as anything else that I was taking. Another serious effect of lidocaine is a condition known as methemoglobinemia. Lidocaine can impair the ability of iron in red blood cells to carry oxygen to the tissues. Methemoglobinemia is the condition of having blood that has this altered kind of iron. Methemoglobinemia can result even from normal use of lidocaine, especially in children. Because the blood is not able to carry enough oxygen to the tissues, people with methemoglobinemia appear very pale or even blue, feel very tired, and have shortness of breath. Methemoglobinemia can be life-threatening.
