Dr. Matthew Bart Luxenberg, MD

First of all, I am absolutely flabbergasted that the first review here says to stay away and that Dr. Luxemberg tries to sell skin care products she did not need. She’s not a dermatologist and does not know what she needs. Secondly, I find that to be false, because I have been seeing Dr. Luxemberg for many years, and he is the complete antithesis of what that person said as not once has he ever tried to sell products. And so what if any doctor does? You can say no. This person must have had a really crappy day and took it out on a wonderful doctor because I know many people who love this doctor. I have been seeing Dr. Luxemberg for many years, and he is a wonderfully patient doctor. As soon as he walks into the room, he greets you with a beautiful smile, and he sits down in the room with you and spends a lot of time with you. He is kind and has a wonderful bedside manner. Just a very nice man who cares about his patients. He also sits with you after the visit and answers… any questions. I have seen other dermatologists, including in Irvine, Ca as I had moved away from the area who have screwed my bottom lip up because of the result of a biopsy and also with folluculitis. The treatment I received by those other doctors was not even appropriate. Dr. Luxemberg would not do another shaving on my lip and has me using Amlactin twice a day, and it is incredible the difference I have seen in less than two weeks. He also is treating my other condition over a long period of time with medication and topical ointments that no other doctor has been able to do. Dr. Luxemberg is the best dermatologist I have ever been with at any time in my life, and I have been with him for many years. He is extremely caring, and I seriously wish I had driven 324 miles to see him for my lip and my other issue because he is phenomenal. Thank you, Dr. Luxemberg. I now drive 48 miles to see you and will never go anywhere else again. You are the best dermatologist ever!

Zero star if I could.... I don't think this "Dr." care about patients AT ALL. Tried to sell me skin care products that I don't need, and with a 'Dr." that doesn't care about his patients at all, you think his staffs would?! Staffs are rude once I refused to buy their products. Not going back for sure.

I have been with Dr. Luxenberg for over 12 years, maybe even 15 but lost count, and I have never had an experience where he was rude, short with time, or didn't seem to care. He has the best bedside manner of any doctor I have gone to, he wants to know your concerns, and will even have social talk if you spark it. And I don't mind waiting 20-30 mins, it gives me the chance to wind down, relax, and catch up on some reading, none of which I do often. He has always been open to answering any questions I have, you just need to understand his personality and not take it personal as he is fast and efficient at what he does. Yes he is a fast talker but knows his job well, so he performs quickly, but that does not mean he isn't listening to you or that he isn't taking time with you. If he is walking out the door and I stop to ask another questions, he comes right back in to answer my concerns each time. I believe if you were to tell him that it was your first visit to a dermatologist, or… it was a first time procedure and your were nervous and would like to know every detail, he would take the time. But for most patients, it is not their first rodeo and there is no reason to rehash what you know already, with every patient...that would be too time consuming. I lost an Aunt to Melanoma, and he has removed many samples to send off to the lab to be checked. I don't expect a callback if it is negative, only if it comes back positive. Offices don't have the time to callback on every single sample removed and sent to the lab in a day, and by the way, you could call them if you are very concerned about yours. Or I am sure if you asked them to call you, they would. As far as follow-ups, he notes that I come back every 6 months for a re-check. Not one time has he not done that. If you want to come back yourself, just tell him during the visit and he will write in chart for checkout to schedule. Otherwise, I'm sure he didn't feel you needed a follow-up. Regarding the person with the hole in their nose. That does not sound like Dr. Luxenbergs process, and I am sorry that you went through that. But anytime someone doesn't feel comfortable with the results, they need to take it upon themselves to get a second opinion immediately and not wait for the followup visit. Unfortunately nowadays patients need to take medical care into their own hands and be their own advocate, especially now with how the government has screwed it up with Obama Care and so on. It has put tremendous burden on the doctors offices and I have heard it and felt the change from all my doctors. Just take the time to ask them, they will be happy to share their frustration too.

awful, rude man

I hate the wait More then 1 hour. Hate the fact doctor dint want to change my prescription I keep calling and they want me to change pharmacy Girls are so Rrude like dam any doctor would do you favor to change prescription but not him won't go for a next visit looking for another dermatologist

Please do yourself a favor and do not go see Dr. Luxenberg. He is personable, experienced, and likely knowledgable, but is highly irresponsible in his practice. Wait time, yes... No call back with results, yes... Clearly double booking and money hungry, yes... But cutting a large plantars wart out of my foot without discussing any alternatives, providing no post-op directions, and not adequately bandaging it so that I was dripping puddles of blood across my house... unforgivable. Before my appointment I overheard him in the hallway making fun of a young man with genital warts, and after the appointment he rushed out because his nurse told him there was cake on his desk. Two months later I still have a massive hole in my foot, and the scar tissue makes it unbearable to walk. If this is my only livable option to remove a wart, so be it. But as I know now, there are many options. Find a doctor who isn't so quick to cut, find a doctor who discuses treatment choices, find a doctor who fully… explains the complicated recovery you may be facing, and find a doctor who takes the time to bandage the 1/4 inch deep hole in your foot.

I have to agree, the wait made me a little aggravated, but the quality time he spent with me when we discussed my skin cancer, I really appreciated. Seems very compassionate and caring.

I think Dr. Luxenberg is awesome! I've been seeing him for a couple of years now for chronic hives and a couple of other dermatological issues, and he is great. The only downside is the fact that there is frequently a long wait time for an appointment. I don't like to wait (who does), but to me it's so very worth it because Dr. Luxenberg is such a great doctor. He spends his precious time with me to make certain I understand what my diagnosis is and what his plans are for my treatment.
