Dr. Matthew Joseph Mcgirt, MD

I was referred to Dr McGirt from my orthopedic surgeon for cervical neck pain after trauma and subsequent shoulder surgery. MRI showed severe narrowing of the foramen per my ortho and he wanted me to see Dr McGirt for another opinion on treatment. My office visit with Dr McGirt lasted maybe 5 minutes where he scanned my MRI and said "Im a surgeon" and basically dismissed my symptoms and didnt once ask me how I was feeling or take the time to listen to anything I had to say. Told me to see another doc in the practice. Very disappointed. Mostly because I felt unheard. I have been dealing with cervical radiating pain for nearly a year. Now I have to wait an other month to see someone else.

I recently had my first visit with Dr. McGirt and I knew immediately I was in excellent hands. He listened closely to my concerns, had a friendly relaxed manner about him and suggested a good plan to address my issue. He was also right on time! Not typical for most busy doctors.

It was a great experience. He was straight to point and you could tell he knew what he was talking about. Very professional and knowledgeable.

Dr. McGirt was extremely professional answering all of my questions, showing me my MRI and laying out a plan that helped me understand short term and long term plans for addressing my herniated disc. Everyone I met on the team was warm and receptive!

Quick and informative appointment with Dr. McGirt. Nice approach with his patients. As a new patient, I was in and out in 40 minutes with a treatment plan. They were extremely busy.

He's very un professional.. laughing in my face while I was crying.. don't go there..I worked in hospitals and Doctors office all my life..u don't treat a patient like this...EVER

I have enjoyed every aspect of CNSA! From the kindness and professionalism of the entire staff I encountered. Dr McGirt took on my surgery ACDF level c3-4 yesterday and one day later I am feeling so much better. Bye bye to stubborn pain in my shoulders and neck. Even my numbness I've experienced over the past two months in my right arm and hand are beginning to return to normal with more strength than the past few months. Dr. McGirt was thorough with my evaluation giving me straight forward answers while reviewing my MRI and x-ray details with me. Even though I was nervous,never having a surgery in my life before he helped me feel at ease as well as the amazing staff that worked alongside him. I am forever thankful for the blessed hands God gave him. Thank you Dr.McGirt for giving me normalcy again.

We are so thankful for Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine! My 83 year old dad had spinal stenosis with spinal cord injury which was causing him to be very unstable, weak and he kept falling totally out of the blue. Every single person at CN&SA from the appointment schedulers, front desk employees, nurses, x-ray techs, MRI techs, Doctor assistants (Susan & Christy) to the PA (Jonathan Lake), Doctor (Dr. Otis) and Surgeon (Dr. McGirt) have been so kind, caring, compassionate and diligent in getting to the root cause and fixing the issue. Without their expertise and diligence, my dad would most likely be paralyzed today. A huge thank you to Dr. McGirt, Dr. Jonathan Lake and Dr. Otis for taking such special care of my dad, the surgery went perfectly, the stitching of the skin was perfect and dad’s recovery has been amazing because of you all!! Me and my family will never go anywhere else!! I can honestly say that Carolina Neurosurgery and Spine is the ABSOLUTE BEST, HANDS DOWN!!
