Dr. Matthew Edward Mosbacker, MD

This guy is a jerk. Rude and pretentious.

Dr. Mosbacker has the worst bedside manner. I was still asking questions and he’s already walking out the door. He is extremely informative, but just as arrogant. The staff wouldn't let me change doctors due to their policy. I feel sorry for the real doctors in that office. Definitely would not recommend him to anyone.

I have been seeing rheumatologists since I was 21 years old and in my almost 25 years of care by various doctors wherever we lived I have never in my life been treated so poorly by office staff or by the doctors themselves. The first time I went I was appalled by the curt approach that Dr. Mosbacker had in response to the records I had previous doctors send to the office (which they required them to be sent). Because the records weren't sent electronically he said "he didn't have time to look through all this" and tossed them aside, then ordered a ton of blood work and radiography. Subsequent appointments were very similar to the first. Dr. Mosbacker comes in with his laptop, opens it up reads his screen (never acknowledging your existence) then says in as few as many words as possible "no significant changes, stay on the prescribed regimen, set your next appointment on your way our". You have to communicate to the "nurse" if you need refills, you have to let the "nurse" know if… you have anything you'd like to discuss with the doctor as they won't discuss anything not shared in advance with the "nurse". These "nurses" are clearly not up to date on any type of common medications or treatment paths used at a rheumatology clinic, because they all look at you like a deer in the headlights when you list your medications or share your past treatment plans, so I have a feeling they're grossly underpaid which explains why they are constantly on a revolving door and no one is ever there the next time you have an appointment. I think the only individuals that are halfway nice are the phlebotomists, other than that the office staff is crabby, mean and downright rude. The lobby isn't kept tidy and the exam rooms are bleak and boring. Heck, they don't even have an exam table, just 2 chairs for you to sit in. Which again, I think speaks volumes about the type of care they are giving at Arthritis Associates, especially Dr. Mosbacker. Also, be aware that you must arrive 30 minutes early because you will stand in what seems to be the SLOWEST moving check-in line you'll ever see in your life and heaven help you if you aren't checked in by the time your appointment hits because they won't see you. Yep, that's right, even if you're there early, but their lackluster, inefficient office staff can't get you checked in "on-time", you're out of luck and you'll have to reschedule. Now please don't think that you'll be seen on time, because that won't happen either. You'll sit in the lobby waiting and then you'll wait some more in the exam room. Needless to say, I was ecstatic when we got our next duty station - RETIREMENT because that meant no more Arthritis Associates of San Antonio and that meant I could find a practice that actually seems to care about their patients. (Please note, other doctors in this practice may be wonderful. I only have experience with Dr. Mosbacker and he seems to be the only one that ever has openings, which probably explains a lot too).

Dr. Mosbacker sees multiple people in my family and he is the worst. He pops all of us with medications and when we have any questions he ignores us and acts like we’re crazy. My mother had questions about a medication she had been prescribed and he ignored her concerns and upped the medication. He takes advantage of my grandmother all the time and ignores her problems. I don’t trust this man with older people at all. Don’t let him take advantage of your family. All he does is take your money and is not concerned with your health at all.

Like... what is the name of the steroid you are taking and what is the dosage? I have never been good with medical terms and I thought that’s what the doctor had at his fingertips on the computer or in my chart. I felt Dr. Mosbacker tried to intimidate me on several occasions. Certainly could not say he had a comforting bed-side manner! I had only driven from Sanderson, Texas or Del Rio, Texas a great distance for a 3 minute consultation including an insult! I believe Dr. Mosbacker is competent. However, I recently had an internist diagnose me with Mixed Connective Tissue Disease after being in Dr. Mosbacker's care. Over the year that I saw Dr. Mosbacker, he maintained that I had fibromyalgia even though I was experiencing significant loss of function. I will state that he did an entire blood panel at the beginning. Perhaps the error was he did not repeat it annually because he was settled on a diagnosis in his mind. He didn't spend more than 3 minutes maximum with me per visit and was very dismissive of my concerns. It has been frustrating to say the least and my confidence in his 'care factor' is very low. I believe a lack of 'care factor' can cause a physician to miss something very important.

I was a patient of Dr. Mosbacker a while ago. He diagnosed me with Rheumatoid Arthritis. He treated me with different medications and changed them as we went along. This was due to the different reactions my system had to each of them, not because he was just trying treatments. I am very grateful because he listened and yes, he is a busy doctor with many patients. It is true that Dr. Mosbacker seems distant at times,or even cold, however I believe we all do when we are concerned with our own pain and problems. I really believe Dr. Mosbacker cares about his patients. He did a wonderful job in treating my pain and tried to regressed the symptoms with the treatments he gave me. I stopped seeing him due to my life status changing, moving even farther away from San Antonio and also, because my symptoms stopped. I have been without any problems for 20 years, even though I know arthritis could recur at any moment, I thank God he placed Dr. Mosbacker in my health path. I will… refer him to anyone suffering with arthritis pain.

I hadn't read any of the reviews before going to Dr. Mosbacker but I have experienced the same demeaning behavior. When I told him certain parts of my body still hurt even with medication his exact words were, "you have fibromyalgia, what do you expect". One of the reviews said that he's in a better mood in the mornings. I shouldn't have to schedule my appointments around the Dr's mood of the day. I also tried to move to a different doctor within the practice and was told that, if I had been seen there within the last three years; I couldn't change doctors there. I called other practices and because I have Tricare, they couldn't take me because they would have too many patients with the same insurance and if the insurance company went under the practice could go out of business. I've literally let my pain get out of control rather than go see this Dr. again.

Been looking for a Rhummie and from word of mouth I got a good sense for this doc. It is my first visit with him. I will say he does listen to what you say. Told him a bit of my story (military and why I needed a Rhummie) and he seemed genuinely interested. He did agree with the diagnosis I've had for 10 yrs. Moving around as much as I have had to do as to remain relevant in my career has been a challenge (Army) so my history shows a number of doctors because of moving around from statecto state and country to country. He understood my unique situation. I will say he seems just a tad impatient but I can relate simply because I can just imagine how many clientele were waiting for a visit with him. I wish I could give him 4 stars (I never give the full stars as nobodies perfect) but my reason behind that has to do with the first 3-5 minutes of of visit. I was (and have been) in a lot of intense pain for about 3 months. We have recently moved here (which here is home..finally) and I'm… on the hunt for a full line of new docs which means no meds until all evals are completed. I'm not sure who his medical assistant thinks that she's working for but I don't think she knows that she's dealing with people in pain (sometimes severe as I was that day). She called my name and we walked back.. I could hardly walk and I was carrying my medical records from past docs to show proof of my history. She took off speed walking which made me feel horrible. I asked her if she could take my bag as she returned for me because it was quite hefty after 20+ yrs of serving. After we sat in room she said I'd have to get into a gown and I said, "ok but it's going to be difficult I'll probably need help". She started taking my BP, and for those with fibro we all know if in a flare it's definitely going to hurt. I started wincing and she made a noise with her mouth as if sucking on her teeth and LITERALLY ripped the BP strap of my arm. I swear if I didn't stop and close my eyes and make myself focus I would've grabbed her and shook her. It felt like some took a hot stick and was burning my arm with it. I was in so much pain and she made it so much worse.. I was LIVID. She left room and the REAL nurse came in and said that the assistant said I didn't want to put a gown on. I advised her she lied and that I had told her I was going to need help with the gown. The Nurse helped me..she was very kind, and took her time making sure she's didn't hurt me anymore than need be. This nurse was actually the reason I gave a 3. I couldn't believe someone in the medical field, knowing they will be working with pain patients, would take a job like this knowing they have a tolerance for others in need. I didn't say anything simply because she could've been having a bad day and it was my first visit (I usually observe on my first vist). Other than her it was a really good visit. The front desk service was patient, informed and very kind. The X-ray attendant was perfect. Very very kind. She even carried my bag without me asking us we walked to her area. The lab individual was SUPERB. Her empathy was so sincere. She took time to joke with me even though she saw the pain I was in. I will be returning and I truly hope the individual that turned this rating into a 3 star instead of a 4 star will be having a better day. After all I know we all have bad days. Other than that Dr Mosebacker, (this being my first visit) is someone I'm pretty sure, (so far), I'd recommend to my military community, family and friends.
