Dr. Matthew Charles Portz, MD

I am not a patient myself, but both of my grandparents were. I truly believe I could’ve had more time with my grandmother if not for this “doctor”. She was getting worse from COPD and it was causing her panic attacks, which obviously made it even harder to breathe. He refused to give her anxiety medicine and just blamed it on her COPD and told her to do breathing exercises. When you are given a very short amount of time to live and so quickly, I think it’s normal to have some anxiety over it. I feel like this greatly exacerbated her condition and used the strength in her lungs up much faster. She had to go behind his back during one of her last trips in the hospital to get something to calm her down and let her enjoy the rest of her life with her huge family. After losing her, my grandfather has been in a terrible depression. They were married since high school for 53 years. OF COURSE he’s going to be depressed. He has been asking this doctor to prescribe him depression medicine or… point him in the right direction. He told him he should just find a way to “work through it”. I come home everyday to him upset and crying and just wanting to be with his wife. If I lose my grandfather well beyond his years as well, it will be the fault of this “doctor” who doesn’t believe mental health is a problem. My grandparents have zero history of addiction and never asked for any such thing before. They have been his patients for over 20 years. If he can’t prescribe it himself, the least he could is give my grandfather a referral or a REAL recommendation of ways to cope with the loss of the love of his life. I guess he’s fortunate enough to have never struggled with any of these problems to know it’s sometimes not as easy to just “work through it”. I wish I could give less stars. What a terrible, uncaring person. Just admit you’re not an all encompassing doctor and give your patients referrals when they’re struggling. You’re not the one seeing their pain everyday. Horrible.

Dr. Portz left a major scar on my forehead with his lack of laser training. I asked him to laser a slight wrinkle next to my eyebrow which then got infected because he burned my skin! Had to returned for medication; however, the scare remains!! He doesn't deserve any stars!!!!

Dr. Portz has taken care of me for about 30 years and he is wonderful. He goes the extra mile for his patients and I'd recommend him to anyone. He's an excellent diagnostician and will not give up until he knows what's wrong.

Dr. Portz saw me through an ordeal with kidney stones some 18 years ago with competence and skill. Because he is part of a group, I had occasion to see other physicians within the group. He is my Dr. of preference for the following reasons: his skill in diagnosis, his explanations, and his willingness to work with me regarding treatments and regimens.

My husband has chronic medical issues some include: head & neck cancer, emergency heart surgery, thyroid cancer, as well as a TIA. Dr. Portz's has been exceptional. He balances calmness and compassion towards my husband. Never have we felt rushed or dismissed. We feel confident in his knowledge of new cutting edge treatments, and he is positive always in his approach. Our family is in capable hands.

This doctor saw my mother on a Tuesday late in the day. She was coughing and short of breathe with no energy and often heard "sounds like crackling" when she coughed. Dr. Portz told her de did not hear anything. The next day I took her to the ER and they removed over 2 LITERS of fluid from her right lung!! This guy needs to go back to medical school. Do not see him if you have anything more than a cold!

He seemed very thorough and pleasant. Good bedside manner. Very appreciative of my selection of the practice. I was new to the practice.
