Dr. Matthew Zirwas, MD

Dr. Zirwas brought me out of an "itch with no rash" all over my body when I was prescribed a steroid for a fungal condition by a general practitioner and by another dermatologist. I had been to several doctors that trying year to get to the root of the horrible problem. I was very encouraged on the first visit as I was treated very well, believed, and we got right down to business to annihilate the problem and it was. I was ready to go out of state and found him on a clinical study. Absolute gold, plus I see he is very active on research committees. This is the kind of doctor called to medicine.

Actually listened to what I was telling him.

He really knows his business!

Dr. Zirwas took the time to discuss at length his personal views on sun exposure and how it relates to cancer risk. It was refreshing to hear from a dermatologist the importance of a healthy amount of sun exposure, the importance of vitamin D and how to balance all the different factors.

I spent a year trying to find a Dr. in Columbus to tell me what I was allergic to at work. He was able to help me figure it out right away, and very kind in moving forward to help solve my problem. Thank You Guys.

Finally, A Perfect Doctor. It took me 69 years to find him and I am very grateful.

This doctor saved my life.

Being a teaching hospital setting (OSU), the office staff leaves a lot to be desired. BUT - Dr Zirwas is wonderful. I previously saw 6 other derm docs and none of them were helpful, still had the very serious rash that nothing worked on alleviating. Dr Zirwas did a scratch test and found 5 items that I was allergic to (on the skin), 2 were the very common skin antibiotics, nickel and 2 minor items. He also found that my skin tended to have yeast overgrowth. He recommended that I wash all over including my face, with dandruff shampoo (I use Nizoral) and to use CeraVe cream. Absolutely fixed me up. I still get the rash when I am not attentive to my routine, but as soon as I get back to it I am fine.

I had to wait almost 3 months to get an appointment after several doctors were unable to determine the cause of a continued rash. He did an allergy test, but told me he actually anticipated a staph infection based on my symptoms. When the results came back he was right on and prescribed what he called an aggressive treatment of antibiotics. They didn't resolved the issue so his office found a time for me to come in the next day and he did another swab test to confirm and told me they would call after they got the results and most likely he would put me on other antibiotics. The office had the results almost a week before I got a call back with further directions. It was a different doctor who called and he had called in the same antibiotic that had been ineffective the first time. I had to wait so long to hear back from them that I had already set up another appointment to see my referring dermatologist who is MUCH more responsive. My experiences with him have been positive, so it may… actually be his office staff and the way phone calls are managed that is the problem, but I had to call everyday for a week and then ended up with a result that was not helpful. His assistant is great and he seems solid too, but the front desk staff is cranky when you arrive and take their own time returning calls. I wouldn't want to have to deal with this on a regular basis.

Being able to diagnose my problem literally changed my life. Went to 3 other dermatologists before I went to him. Hard to get an appointment, but worth it since he can probably diagnose what's causing the problem
