Dr. Maureen Rose Nelson, MD

Dr. Nelson is the medical director of the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas. Previously, she has served in several roles. These have included Associate Professor of PM&R at the University of North Carolina, and prior to that Associate Professor of PM&R and residency program director at Baylor College of Medicine, and chief and medical director of PM&R at Texas Children's Hospital. She is the former chair of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPM&R ) Pediatric Rehabilitation/Developmental Disabilities councils, is on the AAPM&R Nominating committee, and is a member of the PM&R Knowledge NOW Editorial Board. Dr. Nelson has been involved in several additional professional medical societies, including the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Development Medicine (currently on the Adapted Sports Committee)and the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine. …Additionally, Dr. Nelson has edited a pediatric rehabilitation textbook, authored numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed journal articles, and has given multiple presentations and lectures around the country. She was selected "Top Doctors" in 2012 by US News & World Report and "Americas Top Doctors" by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. Dr. Nelson received her MD from the University of Illinois College of Medicine Urbana-Peoria. She completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and she completed her fellowship in pediatric rehabilitation at the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children.
