Dr. Maurice Alvett Holmes, MD

My 1 year old son fell and cut his head on a piece of glass. The amount of blood was frightening & we rushed him to Chi St Luke’s Brazosport. Dr Holmes was our attending physician and had terrible bed side manner from the beginning. Very short with me and made me feel like I was dumb when asking a question. Our nurse was very helpful & did everything he could to control the bleeding. We waited hours (with my sons head bleeding majority of the time) & after results from CT scan came back normal and showing no injury to his skull or glass in the cut he was ready to stitch him up. A screaming, terrified, VERY STRONG toddler (that he did not want to sedate at all because he said there were too many risks involved with sedating a child of his age). As he goes to stitch him up he notices that the swelling around the laceration has increased since the initial exam. He decides to transfer my son to Memorial Hermann because he said he may have cut a vein.. at this point His father and I are… freaking out as a parent because he gave no assurance that my son would be fine or even tell us how serious it could. All I know is that my sons head is STILL bleeding after 4 hours. Dr Holmes left and stuck his head back in the room about 15 mins later to tell us that he was getting everything ready to transfer and that’s the last time I saw him. We waited for a good bit wondering where the ambulance is to transfer and a different nurse comes in to tell us that the ambulance won’t be there for another HOUR. (Memorial Hermann is an hour away). I am livid at this point and we decide to take our son to Memorial Hermann ourselves. - Dr Holmes & that hospital are NOT equipped to deal with pediatric patients. They had me sign an AMA which I should have not signed and thrown in there face because I was not leaving against medical advice, I was leaving because I was trying to get to the same hospital they were going to transfer us to faster because my sons head was bleeding and swelling.

This doctor doesnt care about his patients, son was in ER would not find out what was wrong with him and diagnosed him incorrectly. would not do blood work. I as a parent called to talk to him while son was in Er and he hung up on me. He doesnt answer your questions and brushes you off, waist of time going to ER at Chistus St John and seeing this ER doctor and paying $100 in copay. Highly do not reccommend this doctor Maurice A Holmes.

I was extremely disappointed with this doctor.

We took our daughter to the emergency room at St. Johns following a visit to the PCP. PCP advice was go to the ER because following her fracture her hand was pale and cold. Being a holiday, the PCP contacted the hand surgeon and all agreed to meet in the ER. Upon arrival of Dr. Maurice Holmes he stated, "why are you here? she doesn't need to be in an emergency room" "we don't even see kids here" Now we were sent to this location by a MD. How is a parent to know which advice to follow. Maybe he was having a bad day, but I am thankful our issue was not life threatening, however the doctor who sent us did say if was possibly limb threatening. SAD, if you are in medicine, BE IN MEDICINE. Be a professional.
