Dr. Maurice Yervant Nahabedian, MD

Dr. Nahabedian is an excellent surgeon and provides outstanding care to patients. I recently had abdominal surgery with Dr. Nahabedian because he is an expert in abdominal wall reconstruction. I had no problems and am highly pleased with the results. A successful surgery is directly linked to the expertise of the surgeon. Dr. Nahabedian is the best surgeon ever.

I had surgery with Dr. Nahabedian. It was a difficult surgery and he is an expert. I am happy and pleased with the outcome. My arms were deformed and aching from lymphedema and he fixed them for me. He is the best surgeon ever and extremely caring.

Dr. Nahabedian goes out of his way to make sure you get the absolute best care. He follows up with his patients (which is rare), and is extremely kind and caring, not to mention a WONDERFUL physician and person.

I had a recurrence of DCIS 6 years after my first diagnosis. With a radiated breast, I was scared of the expanders and implants after mastectomy not being successful. I initially wanted to go with the Latissimus flap or the DIEP flap, to guarantee that the radiated breast would not get necrosis. Dr. Nahabedian presented the pros and cons of each procedure and examined me. He then suggested that I am a good candidate for the minimalistic approach which if successful would give me great results with less recovery and pain and long term happiness. What a great man and surgeon! Although I am on day 4 and I am not out of the woods yet, his prediction of the condition of my radiated breast was spot on. I am a very active and physically strong woman but his skills have a lot to do with the fact that the tightness and soreness are tolerable and I am moving around easily and in great spirits. Even if God forbid the radiated breast did fail in the next month, I am sure that I am in good hands… and Dr Nahabedian will work his magic and save it.

I had 3 successful surgeries with Dr. Nahabedian. I was highly pleased with the results. My surgeries were successful because of his expertise. He is an excellent surgeon and provides outstanding information and care. He is also very kind and personable. You will always be in "good hands" with him. No one better. He is the perfect doctor.

I had a bilateral mastectomy as a patient of the Georgetown Lombardi Breast Center. I chose Georgetown and the Breast Center, after much research. Dr. Shawna Willey was the Breast Surgeon and Dr. Maurice Nahabedian was the Plastic Reconstructive Surgeon who made up my breast surgery "team," as the Breast Center refers to the professionals who will oversee and provide a breast cancer patientâ??s care. My experience with the Lombardi Breast Center, and Georgetown as a whole, turned out to be horrible. The catchy use of the word â??teamâ?? is a farce. It was explained that my â??teamâ?? had the goal of collaborating and working together to ensure the best outcome. That didnâ??t happen for me, and Iâ??ve seen other comments on line from others who complain of similar experiences at the Lombardi Breast Center. I would never recommend someone go there for breast cancer surgery. I have a very bad breast reconstruction outcome, performed by Dr. Maurice Nahabedian as the plastic… surgeon. Itâ??s so awful; I am actually deformed. Although I required the removal of one implant four months later due to an infection â?? which is hideous enough â?? both breasts were always deformed from the get-go: both shaped like a watermelon rather than a round breast; both flat on the front rather than rounded; both placed very high towards my collar bone and more to the side than the front...so bulging on the sides under my arms causing my arms to constantly rub against them or bang into them, and making it hard to sleep on my side without pain; both with protrusions as well as indented areas around the perimeter of each breast; and, both with very crooked purple scars. Dr. Nahabedian left a fold in the skin in my right breast, so even getting nipple tattoos wouldn't bring any level of normalcy to how I look. Moreover, rather than looking better with time, as I was promised, both grew worse in both appearance and shape. I also agree with other patients who have had experience with Dr. Nahabedian, asserting that his bedside manner requires extensive improvement. He's arrogant, he doesn't listen, he doesn't remember plans and promises, and he doesn't do what was discussed and agreed upon with his patients. And, Dr. Nahabedian may not even show up for your appointment! If you are going to use him for your breast reconstruction, youâ??d better be absolutely trusting of Residents because they will circulate in and out during your care more often than you will ever see Dr. Nahabedian. It is my theory that Dr. Nahabedian believes he has achieved some level of celebrity status, and so canâ??t be bothered with patients or the time required to produce good work. This part is amazing: When I complained about the abnormal shape of my reconstructed breasts, Dr. Nahabedianâ??s response was that â??he could only work with what the Georgetown Breast Surgeon left him.â?? Waitâ?¦.isn't that what "reconstructive plastic surgery" is all about...taking a bad or complicated situation and making it good? Finally, I'm not impressed with the Lombardi Breast Center's surgeon either. When I learned I had breast cancer, I put my terrified self and my future entirely in the Center's hands. The fact that they were called a â??Breast Centerâ?? made me trusting and confident that they had my back. As the Centerâ??s lead breast surgeon organizing my â??team,â?? she should have recommended the best plastic surgeon for my reconstruction, based on her professional observations and experiences. Unless she never saw Dr. Nahabedianâ??s inferior work (which seems unlikely) or unless she didnâ??t care enough about her patients to speak out about it, or unless she didnâ??t say anything about his poor reconstructive surgery because doctors donâ??t say negative things about each other, especially when theyâ??re both working for the same hospital. The breast surgeon did not have my back at all. When the Breast Surgeon saw how horrific I looked during my recent appointment, she had the opportunity to help me. I was positive that sheâ??d be horrified, angry, and would go to bat for me; insisting that the botched job be made right, not only for me but for the â??Breast Centerâ??sâ?? reputation. Instead, she provided a few sympathetic overtures, a couple of sad faces, acknowledged that I am supposed to have â??symmetry,â?? and then she was gone and I was left alone in the exam room. Then a social worker came in. She offered sympathy too, but neither of them said â??weâ??re going to get this right.â?? If a 'Breast Centerâ?? doesnâ??t have your back, who does? If the reconstructive surgeonâ??s work is indeed dependent on the Breast Surgeon's work, and together they are â??my teamâ?? the Lombardi Breast Center is nothing but a name to get your trust and then your money. Georgetownâ??s Lombardi Breast Center failed me as a woman with breast cancer. My closing recommendation to any woman who finds out she has breast cancer is to never, ever put your trust in the Georgetown Lombardi Breast Center. It should be de-funded and disappear. I believe Georgetownâ??s Lombardi Breast Center may signify a common problem with womenâ??s breast cancer across the U.S. Breast Centers are everywhere today. Their existence makes people feel that breast cancer is finally getting the attention it needs, that there are concentrated numbers of experts in those Centers who will be the patientâ??s breast cancer champion. But I wonder if the rise of Breast Centers has actually created a false confidence about breast cancer when, in fact, some if not many professionals who work in the Centers, are not champions at all: their eye is on the money generated. That is what my experience has shown me. My worries should have been lifted when I learned that the cancer was completely removed. Instead, I am now depressed every day, embarrasse

I had DIEP flap surgery and had excellent results. Dr Nahabedian was compassionate and caring, even though we spent minimal time together - that's the feeling I left with. Highly recommend.

He performed an immediate bilateral reconstruction using tissue expanders and AlloDerm. Unfortunately, the outcome of these two procedures was very bad. I concur with previous reviews. He has a kind and amicable manner, though rushed. He tends to minimize complications allowing them to be severe before treating them. He explains procedures, risks and consequences vaguely. He will also benefit from improving his bedside manners. As previous feedback provided mentioned he needs to be more assertive in managing complications. Drains were wrongly placed. As a result I was not able to properly drain blood from the surgery. After breast surgery, one or more surgical drains are set in place near your incisions. Although these can be uncomfortable and inconvenient, they are worth the trouble. Having surgical drains prevents blood and lymphatic fluid buildup under the skin, and encourages healing and recovery. Unfortunately, the drains did not meet that objective. Fluid built up under skin… favoring deformity and pain. Four different Doctors from 4 different hospitals located in 3 different States concurred that performed procedures could had benefitted from better standards and that it was needed another intervention to correct deformities. The remedial plan proposed by Dr. Nahabedian was not endorsed nor seconded by none of the 4 doctors consulted. I have been very concerned about my health safety due to the results and recurrence of interventions. A lot of thinking and professional advice was needed to make the decision of taken the risk of another surgery. Fortunately, I followed the advice of a savvy physician. The revision was done by another Doctor and the results are amazing.

Dr Nahabedian is wonderful. He knows how to work with breast cancer patents/survivors. He did a fantastic job on my Reconstruction! Best Staff, office (McLean, VA) and fantastic doctor! Thank you :)
