Summary
Max Pell, DO, is a board-certified anesthesiologist specializing in pain management. He evaluates and treats adults for a wide variety of chronic pain conditions, including degenerative disc disease, arthritis, lower back pain, radiculopathy, nerve pain, sciatica, neuropathy, abdominal pain, perineal and pelvic pain, chest wall discomfort, headaches and joint pain. He also performs nerve blocks, erector spinae plane blocks, radiofrequency ablation of the medial branches, steroid injections, spinal cord stimulation and trigger point injections. And he performs ultrasound-guided procedures which include injections of the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, greater trochanteric bursa, subdeltoid/subacromial bursa and of most peripheral nerves. He has a clinical interest in neuromodulation."I am passionate about a comprehensive, multi-modal approach to pain," he says. "I greatly enjoy working hand in hand with patients to relieve their pain in ways they often thought was impossible."Dr. Pell …earned his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Philadelphia. After medical school, he completed a residency in anesthesiology at Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston. He followed that with a fellowship in pain medicine at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey.He served as a flight physician in the United States Air Force. He says of his time in service, "It was a tremendous honor to care for flyers, space operators, missile operators and their families. I carry with me the core values of 'service before self' and 'excellence in all we do' every day when I go to work." While in the Air Force, Dr. Pell received an Air Medal and a Commendation Medal.He's an accomplished researcher, presenter and lecturer. He's presented his work at conferences and meetings across the U.S. and has had several works published. He has also served on medical mission trips to Ecuador.Dr. Pell's mother died of cancer when he was a baby. This would later inspire him to pursue a career in medicine. "I always viewed the future of medicine as the solution to 'incurable' conditions, and providing comfort has always been my calling, whether that be through administering anesthesia or through the practice of pain medicine," he says.In his spare time, Dr. Pell enjoys spending time with his wife and children and their two dogs, rooting for Penn State Nittany Lions football, hiking, playing tennis, skiing and snowboarding.
