Dr. Maxine Minto, MD

I am writing this review in regards to my son who was seen by Dr. Minto recently. My 5 1/2-year-old son has been seeing a psychiatric therapist since he was four for his ADHD. When we moved to the Tampa area, I wanted to switch doctors and start going to BayCare Behavioral Health. We were recommended to go to the office on Little Road in New Port Richey and we were scheduled to see Dr. Minto via Tele health inside of Baycare behavioral health. We were told that Dr. Minto was leaving Baycare and she would be taking My son for his intake appointment so that he could get established with another physician within BayCare Behavioral Health. When we got there The intake nurse took my son‘s vitals and said that they seemed low and that Dr. Minto is very textbook so she’s probably gonna have an issue with his vitals being a tad low. Being seen by other psychiatric physicians, no one has been concerned about my sons vitals as we’ve been monitoring him since he was four so I started to get… concerned. We went in for the appointment and saw Dr. Minto on a screen. We went over patient medical history and family medical history and then she talked about my son‘s vitals. she was extremely concerned about the medication he is on and she could not believe that any other psychiatric Physician would put my 5 1/2-year-old on this type of medicine. She kept saying why is he on this medicine why did they decide this course of treatment and she just kept asking me questions about the medicine when I was telling her that we started from one medicine and worked our way up to where we are now by monitoring him and working up towards the medicine that he’s on currently and it has been working so far. So after getting through the appointment, She hyper fixated on the vitals and told me that she’s not medically clearing my son and that I need to go to an ER or emergency care to get medically cleared. She also said To schedule an appointment with Lisa the nurse practitioner for 2 weeks out to go forward with my son’s medication. So I immediately scheduled a follow up appointment with Lisa and drove my son drove my son to MedExpress urgent care, the closest in our location. There they took my sons vitals and said they were within normal Range. After getting paperwork printed out and giving it to BayCare Behavioral Health we went on with our day. The following day I received a phone call from Baycare front desk stating that Lisa the nurse practitioner does not prescribe medicine for children under six years old and that they apologized that Dr. Minto told me to schedule an appointment with Lisa. I had to contact a different office, Brooksville, to schedule an appointment with a physician that would take my child age. I went back-and-forth for a week trying to get someone to transfer me to Brooksville and I went through multiple emails and phone calls to finally get on the schedule with a psychiatric physician for 5 1/2 year old. The only thing that Baycare behavioral health in Newport Ritchy could say in regards to Dr. Minto referring me to Lisa was that they are completely sorry for the mixup, that Dr. Minto knows Lisa for 10 years and that she should not have referred me to Lisa. After the week went by And I got a hold of Lisa’s nurse who takes her phone calls, she said that Dr. Minto was not clearing my son because his vitals were not within normal range after seeing an urgent care that Dr. Minto would be contacting me via phone to go further. After that, I was irate and upset. The urgent care cleared my son and told me my son was within normal range but there was a mixup with the paperwork. Since MedExpress urgent care is not a pediatric urgent care when the vitals for blood pressure printed out it’s stated abnormal next to it. For an adult yes the blood pressure reading would be abnormal but since my child is 5 1/2 years old it is within normal range and if Dr. Minto would have read and looked at the blood pressure reading she would have known it was in normal range because she’s a medical doctor but unfortunately, She sat there and hyper fixated on the word abnormal and said he’s not medically cleared . I took it upon myself to drive my son to Baycare urgent care who takes pediatric blood pressures and had them do readings for my son. The urgent care was confused on why this doctor was sending my son to an urgent care for vitals to be medically cleared. They stated that if this doctor was extremely concerned about vitals and the medicine my son was on she should have referred us to a pediatric cardiologist and not an urgent care. After they took his vitals, they told me my son is within normal range and they put it in his medical charts that he is normal range and medically cleared. I have yet to hear from Dr. Minto in regards to my sons vitals and I have not heard anything about my son being medically cleared by Dr. MInto since being seen by Baycare urgent care and being cleared by them and if Dr. Minto was extremely concerned she would have already contacted me in regards to this issue but she has not. After all this back and forth I finally got a an appointment with a doctor in the Brooksville office that does take 5 1/2 years old and we will go forward with them but as far as my experience with Dr. Minto, it has been not a very good experience as she hyper fixated on issues that no one else is ever been concerned about and she wanted to alter the medication that my son is on and has been on and helping him and she was doing all this from one appointment and one time meeting my child. It just left an extremely bad taste in my mouth and especially when she referred me to a doctor that wouldn’t even see my son for his medicine was the icing on the cake. if you’ve worked with this person for 10 years you know that she will not medically treat my son because of age and you should never have referred me to that doc

I saw Dr. Minto through a tele psych therapy provider in my area. She repeatedly failed to listen to my needs and did not believe me when I told her about the side effects I had experienced in the past on antipsychotics. I told her I did not want to be prescribed antipsychotics. I was on a working dose of lamictal, a mood stabilizer, and she upped the dose, causing a reaction to the medication instead of suggesting a medication to handle my anxiety. After my allergic reaction to lamictal, triggered by the increase, I was required to go inpatient for a med change to be monitored. They put me on an antipsychotic even though I told them I did not want to be on one. I also use cannabis for fibromyalgia, and Dr. Minto was not receptive to me using a medication I have used for years to manage my pain and kept trying to blame the cannabis for my problems tolerating other medications. I repeatedly asked to be put on another mood stabilizer, but she kept not listening and putting me on… antipsychotics because I might get a rash. Oh, she also tried me on Lithium, which is weird, because Lithium is known for giving rashes. Then, at the end, she claimed I refused medication on my chart when all I refused to do was go into inpatient care for a few weeks while they got my medication figured out because I would lose my job. This doctor tried to manipulate me and invalidate me to get me to do things in the name of my mental health that were not good for me, such as going into inpatient care for my own safety. While in inpatient care, they put me on a medication that made me so dumb I could not do my job when I was let out. Being on that medication caused serious issues to crop up at work when I was not being productive enough, and when I explained to her that I do not have the time to go back to inpatient care, she told me that she thought it would be good to close my case file. Only afterwards when I talked to the nurse did I find out that meant that Dr. MINTO WAS DISCHARGING ME for refusing to take medication. Just to be clear, I didnt refuse to take the meds. I refused to be locked up and not allowed to work for 2-4 weeks. That was about 8 months of torture, seeing this awful doctor. So anyway, dont waste your time seeing this doctor. She tries but I think she needs to go to therapy and deal with some things too.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, ENERGY OR MONEY SEEING THIS DR. SHE IS AWFUL IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD AND THAT IS PUTTING IT MILDLY. Even the 1 star is too high a rating for her. Just like the previous two reviews said ... she rents a room from an office and has no receptionist. You leave her message after message and you are lucky if you get a response. Yes, she is EXTREMELY COLD, DID NOT INTRODUCE HERSELF AND SHE DOES ASK FOR PAYMENT IMMEDIATELY. She has no business being a DR because she could care less about her patients.

I do not recommend her to anyone. She rents a room from an office, the office staff there does not work directly for her and can not help you with anything. She schedules her own appointments which is AWFUL. When you call the office number someone answers but will tell you that the doctor schedules her own appointments so you will get transferred and the doctor never answers. I would leave numerous messages and she always took too long to get back to me. She is not accommodating at all, I consistently had difficulty scheduling with her due to my job and I even informed her I was running out of medicine but she did not seem concerned. I did not read reviews before making my initial appointment with her and that was my mistake, I assumed since she graduated from the University of Miami that she would be competent, wrong. A doctor has to be compassionate and she lacks in that department, I have since switched doctors.

Worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. Extremely Cold, did not have a receptionist, so she provided the new patient forms, did not even introduce herself, immediately asked for payment, did not even ask for our names, very stand offish, did not want any background information, felt very rushed, gave 3 different diagnosis then referred us to seek out a therapist, but she could not even recommend a good one. She has absolutely no reviews online and shame on me for not looking (RED FLAG), She could immediately get me in within day (RED FLAG - all good psychiatrist are booked for 4-6 weeks out), she said she did not need to see us again, she barely even spoke, then after understanding our diagnosis she acted unethically and went completely against her own diagnosis knowing the situation and called CPS on my family...THIS WOMAN IS A DISGRACE TO ALL GOOD PSYCHIATRIST OUT THERE AND I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HER TO MY WORST ENEMY...YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, IF YOU LIKE THROWING YOUR MONEY… AWAY FOLLOW IN MY FOOT STEPS IF YOU DON'T GO TO THE NEXT PSYCHIATRIST ON YOUR LIST!!!!!
