My Northwestern PCP advised me to go to the ER simply to get a PICC line. I waited at Northwestern Memorial ER for 8 hours to be seen. I was then told the ER does not install PICC lines and was admitted overnight to Northwestern Memorial simply to get a PICC line. Thirty hours later, a nurse finally came to my hospital room and installed the PICC line so I could leave. In the meantime, Northwestern Memorial Hospitalist Dr Maya Defoe overruled the antibiotics quantity on my existing prescription from the head of infectious disease at Chile’s #1 ranked hospital, saying this is not Chile. When I questioned doing that, Dr Defoe said I had “negative energy”. The next day a nurse came to my home to show me how to administer IV antibiotics in my PICC line. I asked the home nurse about her clients’ experiences at Chicago ER’s, and she said many have told her about poor experiences at Northwestern Memorial but rarely have complained about Rush or University of Chicago.

Overall ER experience was good. The MDs in the ER were excellent. During observation, I met Dr. Defoe. I was very disappointed. Not a good listener. The PAs were much better than her.
