Megan Elizabeth Simonetti Eng

A client was referred to Megan Eng by the city of Portland for completion of an assessment regarding psychological workplace injury. This psychological assessment demonstrated a lack of clinical competence and professionalism. The evaluator failed to recognize what appeared to be clear symptoms consistent with PTSD, instead reaching conclusions that did not accurately reflect the client's presentation. The report lacked the depth, clinical reasoning, and trauma-informed assessment that would be expected from a qualified psychologist conducting an evaluation with significant consequences. Equally troubling was the evaluator's handling of the assessment documentation. The report was not provided until more than a month after the evaluation, an unreasonable delay given the importance of timely documentation in legal and employment matters. This raises serious concerns about professional ethics and accountability. The report also misgendered the client. Such a fundamental error strongly… suggests that portions of the report were copied and pasted from another assessment rather than being carefully prepared for the individual being evaluated. This kind of mistake undermines confidence in the accuracy of the entire report and calls into question the level of care that went into the evaluation. The cumulative effect of these deficiencies is significant. An inaccurate assessment, delayed documentation, and careless errors have created unnecessary harm and have forced the client to retain legal counsel to challenge the report. As a result, the city will ultimately incur additional expenses that could have been avoided had the evaluation been conducted competently and professionally in the first place. Professionals entrusted with psychological evaluations have an ethical obligation to produce accurate, individualized, and timely reports. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this psychologist. The lack of clinical judgment, attention to detail, and professional responsibility reflected in this evaluation falls well below the standard that clients and referring agencies should expect.
