Dr. Mei Dong, MD

I met with Dr. Dong yesterday (she was referred to me by my PCP) to assist with chronic iron loss. She is a hematologist (thus the referral). The check-in staff were friendly and there was very little wait time; however, that is where the positive experiences begin and end. I have never had such a negative experience with a doctor before. From the moment Dr. Dong entered the room she was abrasive, impatient, hostile and rude. She began not by finding out why I was there and finding out what I needed, but instead began by lecturing me about the causes of iron deficiency. She was not interested in mutual communication. She was there to talk AT me and I was there to listen. She did not want to know how long I had this health issue, what I'd done thus far with my PCP and OBGYN to address it or what I was currently experiencing. If I had a question she would angrily tell me "to let her finish". The atmosphere was a "sit down and shut up" situation. She was not interested in helping me at… all during the visit. She seemed to resent that I was there at all. In the end after enduring her hostility and abrasive manner she informed me she was not the right doctor for me to see and she couldn't help me. The visit was a waste of time, but also a waste of my $25 co-payment. I have notified my PCP I will not return to her and if I need to go to hematologist it'll need to be someone else. Save your time, money and sense of well-being and choose someone else.

Explained the process of my treatment intelligently. Had an excellent grasp on my cancer diagnosis and communicated both the positives and negatives of my treatment. Was a positive influence and I left our initial meeting feeling I was in good hands.

Dr. Dong recommended a treatment based on a misinterpreted report and made no effort to speak to my 2 surgeons for clarification until I got really angry. Had I blindly accepted her diagnosis, my skin would not be amenable to finish plastic surgery, of which she was unaware that I had already started at our first meeting. When asked later for help scheduling a test by my GP's office, me - the patient and a coworker, she ignored all 3 of us for 2 weeks, until I threw a fit again. Never making an effort to speak directly to me, her patient, she issued a reply that had nothing to do with any of our requests for her assistance. Unless you are mentally and physically able to do battle to get the proper care and attention you need, I would not recommend this doctor to anyone.

Spent 10 minutes in 10 days with my ternminally ill mother. Then prescribed chemo and stood us up for the patient conference to discuss diagnosis and treatment. Deplorable. Never even offered an apology. Her lack of communication left my mom terrified. Shame on you Dr . Dong for your lack of compassion, humanity, professionalism, and common decency.
