Dr. Melba F Lewis, MD

Hands down the best doctor I’ve ever had. In a few words she is thorough, extremely smart, and communicative. Dr. Lewis has literally come to the rescue twice in my life, 13 years apart. Both times her thoroughness paid off. In 2005 she recognized my recurring tonsillitis and sinusitis which others has dismissed as allergies. Before I went from doctor to doctor and mixed diagnoses. She recommended, and the subsequently I went with, an aggressive course of treatment including sinus surgery, septoplasty, and a tonsillectomy. From then to now in 2019 I’ve had 2 confirmed sinus infections - major success! Before it was one a month and I never have really had allergies! More recently, in June 2018, I returned to Dr Lewis even after researching other doctors because I didn’t have time for the wait which some complain about (yeah it can take a while). I was glad I went to her. After 45 minutes of questioning she began to narrow down possible causes to my latest hearing loss… issue. In true Dr Lewis fashion she ordered a battery of tests to rule causes one by one. It turns out that the latest issue was much more serious, an acoustic neuroma which is a type of brain tumor that sits on the hearing nerve. She called me as soon as she got the MRI results (at 9pm) and stayed in the phone with for an hour explaining my options. Yes, I’ve had to wait longer amounts of time like everyone mentions but she is worth the wait and she spends just as much time with you as your wait. I have learned to book a half day which I’ll happily make time for. I don’t think I’ve ever had 1:1 Dr Lewis time that was less than a hour.

I have had ongoing problems for close to six years now and have seen a multitude of doctors. Finally, Dr. Lewis was able to correctly diagnose and treat my condition. I was astounded at how much time she spends with the patient and how thorough and holistic she is in her approach. The wait times can be a bit long, but it is worth it when you realize how much time you get with the specialist! I have recommended her several times already and will continue to do so!

My teenage son is a patient of Dr. Lewis, which he loves very much. She not only has an exceptional bedside manner, but her compassion towards her patience is more than words can express. She is my son's personal preference of the caregivers. Neither I nor my son are particulary happy with her P.A, she has a very dry personality which doesn't compliment her bedside manner at all. Janna, her Nurse or M.A, is beautiful and kind and also very compassionate towards the patience and families. The front desk staff, especially Logan, my son loves receiving his courtesy reminder calls from Logan because of his southern accent and wonderful way of communicating with everyone, he is an incredible asset to the office. Aside from that one P.A, this office and their staff are a true blessing to Austin, we are lucky to have them.
