Dr. Melissa Rae Coomes, MD

Dr. Coomes does not listen to her patients. I specifically told her a concern I had and she ordered me medications and tests that I did not need. I love that her staff is responsive, however I would prefer to have a doctor that listens to their patient. I have to be extremely picky about my doctors because most do not have any knowledge of conditions that I have. I used to like this doctor so much that I almost started recommending her to other people, but my issue is threefold right now. First, I had to pay around $350 for a test that I did not need and was inappropriate for my symptoms. Second, a medication that was ordered did made one of my top concerns worse and is the number one reason why the medication is ordered in the first place. Third, I requested certain tests be done on me and a few weeks later come to find out that those specific tests were never ordered. After raising my concern to the front desk I was finally able to get the test ordered. I prefer my doctors utilize me… in helping my team reach the consensus that needs to happen in my treatment. I understand that I am a very complicated case and not many doctors understand all the ramifications about me, but at least be willing to listen to a patient.

She is thorough, kind, and looks at all sides of health. I couldn't be more pleased with her skill level and support!!

I have been a patient of Dr. Coomes for many years she is a terrific doctor. What are we generally looking for is a doctor who will listen, who does not talk down to us and Dr. Coomes is honest with you if see is not sure of something she will let you know but generally we find an answer. I have recently moved and I am looking for another doctor and I have used Dr. Coomes as my measuring stick. I will miss Dr. Coomes you can't go wrong with her as your doctor

I do not trust Dr. Coomes. Would not recommend her to treat my dog or cat or any animal, much less a human being. Stay away if you want to live!

A wonderful, brilliant physician. Very patient, gentle, sympathetic, hardworking, tenacious and incredibly dedicated to her patients.

I have serious distrust for the medical and pharmaceutical industries. We brought our 6 week old infant to see Dr. Coomes, as he had a cold. She examined him, tested his oxygen levels and recommended that we bring him into the ER to have him checked for RSV. I resisted a bit, as the hospital is the last place I wanted my son, before his immunity system has developed. She brought in a specialist who was also in the office, and got a second opinion on the spot She was absolutely right! By the time he was tested at the hospital his oxygen levels were low, he was admitted, and would have been in danger if he slept that night without being on oxygen. She handled us with tact, and diplomacy, met my reticence with understanding. No ego battle, always talked with us, never at us... She was great! I trust her. She is open to alternative healing methods, is a proponent of preventative medicine, rather than reactive. Great, great, great... except the wait was long, but that is a small price to… pay

Dr. Coomes doesn't just act like she cares, she really does. As a middle aged male being completely distrustful of the medical industry she set me at ease. As a Dr. that believes in holistic lifestyle changes prior to dispensing medicine I didn't feel like I was simply going to be given a PEZ dispenser of pills. She took all the time I needed, was thorough, and gave me alternatives that I was really looking for. As she has been trained by Dr. Andrew Weill's integrative medicine team, she brings back to family medicine something that seems to have gone the way of the old traveling family Dr. making house calls. I would recommend her highly.
