Dr. Melissa Kiku Kuwahara, MD

I had to have a surgical abortion because Dr.Kuwahara refuses to use the pill. I did the procedure and a month later ended up in the hospital because the procedure was not fully done. I still had tissue left in my uterus and was now expelling it. I now have to have another procedure done to remove the tissue. Understandably this does happen 1-2% of the time. However, I did have a follow up appointment and Dr.Kuwahara literally told me, "the procedure went well, we got EVERYTHING". I called to let her know what happened. SUMMER rudely answered the phone and REFUSED to let me speak to Dr.Kuwahara. "Who is this???" she answered rudely. I told her my name and she told me to just consult my other doctor in Oahu. SUMMER has ALWAYS been rude and callous, but this is unacceptable. I HIGHLY do not recommend this office. Dr.Kuwahara is OK but if you want ACTUAL care, go to her father, Ebesugawa. Yes, his wait is long, but you won't be treated as though you are NOTHING by SUMMER.

When I told her June, before I could tell her when in June, she went and scheduled and gave me a card to have me leave. When I looked at the card it was for an appt on Wednesday when my scheduled procedure was Friday. I then went inside to let them know I can’t make Wednesday due to work and they said well that’s how it works for pre-op. Wouldn’t it have been nice to be told these things from the person scheduling me? It would definitely be since I DONT WORK THERE NOR KNOW THEIR PROCEDURES. I have been to several doctors offices growing up here, but never have I ever been to a more unprofessional and rude office staff. I have never left a doctors office in tears from being given such a rude and unprofessional attitude. It’s an OBGYN OFFICE, shouldn’t we feel safe and taken cared of instead of just another “cash cow “ for this office to use and schedule whenever they like without consideration for any patients work and life schedules? I would NEVER recommend this office to anybody if… they like to be happy. I would rather fly to another island than to get care from them again. I don’t think anyone should ever be treated like that and if SUMMER continues to work there, then it shows what their office is really about. UNPROFESSIONALISM, RUDENESS AND TREATING PATIENTS LIKE SHIT. I will be filing a complaint with the BBB as well as any other platform this office is on because no one deserves this.

She filled in for my primary OB while he had to be off island, monitoring my high risk pregnancy. She caught a medication prescription that needed to be changed to something better suited to pregnancy. My regular OB hadn't noticed (or just hadn't changed it yet? ) She was kind, and reassuring. When my OB eventually retires, I'm going to try to get moved over to her practice.

Doctor and staff has a very bad attitude and very inconsiderate about you , your family, and situation. They do not care at all. I do not reccommend you go here if you are high risk. Please look elsewhere .

this dr and her office staff could care less of her patients...all with frixken attitude including the dr! she too young and needs to grow up a little then try help people! treat patients the way they should! no talk crap about them with your staff! unreal! and now get one new clueless receptionist who cant even explain nothing over phone when she answers! office sucks better off going to another dr if you wanna get treated with respect!simple

the only thing i think making that dr have a great office is the welcome that the receptionist gives me when i check i belive her name is candi...she is very kind and i love that she is easy to talk to...even when i call i know whick one she is...on the other hand the nurse inside as well as the check out girl has such bad attitudes with no professional manners...i mean put a smile on your faces! make your patients feel welcome....on the other hand as for dr kuwahara she is a great dr but for the time we wait i expect more from her...even though she is precise it seems everything has to be split into more and more appointments instead of having one good one....i think for hilo she is a great obgyn but not for primary care..

Staff is nice but office appears to give a "basic service" approach with very little personality and warmth.

Had a previous OB that I didn't feel took care of what I needed . Transferred to dr kuwahara because I feel more comfortable with women . I was young having my first child and she passed no judgment. Through my whole pregnancy she always reassured me and explained everything to me when I had questions. Even when I delivered my son , she was very calm and understanding that I was a first time mom and I was freaking out . She's the absolute best . Very caring , and professional. Even to this day , always wanting to know what I need and how everything is going . Love her .

First of all I transferred to Melissa because in the beginning the wait time was not as long as her father (who is a great doctor but just too long of a wait) Not anymore the wait time is over an hour and she only talks to you for about a minute. Melissa use to be friendlier when I first became a patient now she comes off as snobby and condescending. Staff is the worst! Unfriendly and seems bothered if they have to actually work and you enter the office. No smile, no hello you can stand in front of the receptionist for literally minutes without her acknowledging you!!! No communication with staff I will call to see doctor for something and the doctor will think I’m there for something else happens multiple times. Also they will make unnecessary appointments and say they need to see you for this and that all unnecessary, they just want to bill you and your insurance company. Last but not least they totally violate HIPA laws. They totally talk about other patients right in front of me… giving out there personal information and there medications. The only good about this office is the receptionist that sits on the left I believe her name is Malorie she is nice and seems like the only one that understands customer service is a part of the job.

Office staff used to be nice until I needed something and they turned very rude. They never answer the phone and doctor has poor bedside manner and extreamly long wait time.
