Dr. Melvin Jerome Butler, MD

I was referred to Dr. Butler by the Barnes-Jewish referral line. When I arrived, there was not much of a wait. He wanted to draw blood, but he told me I could not have my blood drawn at his practice because his phlebotomist is deathly afraid of dogs. I have a seeing eye dog that poses no threat to anyone. The uneducated phlebotomist has more chance of being bitten by a patient than by my dog. The receptionist was also very unprofessional. Due to the fact that I am blind, she kept asking patronizing questions such as: "Who takes care of you? Do you have a case manager? Do you have a social worker? Do you have a relative who takes care of you? Are you associated with any agencies?" When I said no to all of the above, she unprofessionally stated, "I know you got that dog from somewhere." I said, "Yes, I did. What's your point? I got him from a guide dog school in New Jersey." After what seemed like ten minutes of constant questioning, she finally seemed to get the hint or at least she… stopped trying to ask patronizing questions. When someone is candid with you and provides you with the information you are asking for, trust them! It is their truth, even if it is incomprehensible to you. I was accompanied by another blind person who was also seeing Dr. Butler for the first time. His receptionist, in the midst of asking all her patronizing questions, asked me why I didn't have him get ready. He had come unprepared and did not have his insurance card. I calmly explained to her that although he is blind, he is an adult and fully capable for caring for himself in all aspects. Overall, Dr. Butler seemed like a very nice, caring physician. I will continue to go forward with my healthcare at that facility; however, I will proceed with caution. I believe his staff should really be educated when it comes to serving people with disabilities. This type of behavior does not only apply to his staff, but to a lot of people in the medical field. The medical field seems to marvel at our normality.

I was in severe leg, Dr Butler just referred me to a specialist without talking to me or asking questions. I was not able to walk or sit and he rudely said he could not do anything for me until he knew what he was treating. I was in tears due to pain after my visit, he ran blood tests and didn't even tell me what he was looking for and can't get the results. Do notwaste your time and energy going to this Dr, where is his credentials I don't see them on the website.

Made appt as a new patient because their office accepted my insurance.Front desk receptionist was fine. Wait time was acceptable. Someone who never introduced themselves Took my vitals. Dr Butler arrived shortly and asked asked if I had any medical problems. I acknowledged a seizure disorder since age 14, controlled by medication. He said he'd have to refer me to a neurologist and left the room. End of exam! Never touched me nor asked another question. Shortly sent to another room. Unkept young woman enters in street. clothes and snaps on some gloves and orders me to roll up my sleeve as she pops her gum and her tournaquet! I ask if she's going to draw my blood and she says yes. She does so and walks out. Entire experience was ridiculous. Called a week later for my neurology referral and told he hadn't gotten to it. My insurance company was billed $262 for this " Encounter" - that was the wording on their statement! Yikes- I will definitely be disputing this!

I went to this dr.because he was highly recommended by the dr.referral line. First let me start by saying his staff is very unprofessional,rude.They told me I was a hard stick and couldn't find my veins 1st.I herd that no one has ever had that issue with me.i waited for the doctor about 20 min. When the dr. came in he was done in less than 2min.I had to stop him and ask don't you want to know why I'm here ? I only came for acid reflex problems not for my blood to be drawn.He was too rush for me and unconcerned a waste of my hard earned money.

i rated this doctor very low because of staffing was very rude and extremely unprofessional. doctor seem nice. i really wanted to give him a chance but his staffing was extremely rude and insulting. my first visit was terrible. im handicapped and require arm movements with assistance. nurse asked another nurse for assistance with me and the other nurse questioned "why she needed help putting my arm on the table" infront of me. she explains to the nurse about my condition, infront of me and then she couldnt get the condition i had right. she seem like a sweet lady but she had a problem telling the other lady about my condition which was wrong. so i lost all confidence in her. plus to top that off, when i first called to make an appointment, the receptionist took my info and hung up on me. i called right back and she re-asked me for same info i had just gave her. she didnt have the courtesy to say im sorry for the disconnection or anything. then today i go to another office to get blood… drawn because im a hard stick, the blood drawer lady said she have dr melvin as her doctor and she really likes him but she dont let them draw her blood at his office. now what does that say about his nurses and she is a lab blood drawer herself. talk about giving me something to think about on top of what i had already went through. if you are considering dr melvin butler, give him a chance. i couldnt afford to trust my health issues in the arms of his rudely staffing. i had thought about he would be taken care of me and not them, but what if i need to call in for help and have to depend on his staff to get message too him. i am really sorry i couldnt stick it out. i have too many serious health issues.

Dr. Butler was wonderful. I have recommended him to all of my friends.
