Dr. Melvin P. Rosenwasser, MD

Six years ago I went to Dr. Rosenwasser for an issue with my thumb. He suspected cancer . After confirmation by a radiologist cancer specialist, Dr. Rosenwasser amputated the last digit for me. Dr. Rosenwasser made the experience, from start to finish, more pleasant than imaginable. According to the Occupational Therapist (unrelated to the office of Dr. Rosenwasser) that saw me "the doctor did a beautiful job; way cleaner that others she's seen".

Horrible experience. Doctor dismissed symptoms and what turned out to be a chronic and significant injury. I felt like he was combative. I wish I had avoided.

Dr Rossenwasser is by far the most knowledgeable hand surgeon around. I have seen several throughout my life and sons life Dr took as much time as needed to care for my unique situation and expertly took care and time to repair my hand. My situation was unique as I only have 1 hand and tendon that was needed to transfer was from a damaged finger. I now have my thumb and the index actually working. Dr took me in after first surgery was unsuccessful- HSS wanted me to wait with a non functional thumb on my only hand my experience with Dr Rossenwasser was an amazing success ! Thank you

He was very efficient is his diagnosis but it’s took a very long time to be seen. I was told to be there 45 minutes early, but he was 1.5 hours late seeing me. (About an hour of which was spent not in the lobby but in the office after I was called to be seen)

Dr. Rosenwasser was a caring and competent hand specialist. He understood my issues and provided excellent care.

Dr. Rosenwasser has had the opportunity to operate on five of my ten fingers. The five fingers are doing very well.

Extremely good experience from first consult with the ever engaged and patient Dr Rosenwasser and the pleasant, efficient staff, -through surgery, follow-up, recuperation and therapy.

Went to Columbia Pres on W. 51 street yesterday....they took an xray of my thumb....another young doctor came in...took a slight history than Dr. Rosenwasser came in....looked at the xray and said it was arthritis and continued on to explain what arthritis is...."little bumps on the bone at the joint"...I didn't see any little bumps anywhere in the xray of the bone joint end....maybe he's right, maybe I'm wrong. He continued on to explain the "sequence" of treatments available. One was a basal thumb brace that Columbia Pres wanted to charge me $77.20 for when I bought the same brace this morning for $15.99 at Duane Reade. The other script was a topical gel that after Googling it I found has warnings as the first thing in that it can cause strokes, heart attacks, liver damage, etc. even topically. Not something I want to take but he sent the script to my pharmacy nonetheless and lo and behold....My Rite Aid pharmacy never got the prescription. Evidently it bounced back to Columbia Pres… as undelivered. Did anyone at Columbia Pres let me Know? No. So I called Columbia Pres and they confirmed they had the right info for my Rite Aid pharmacy and would resend the script. Rite Aid finally got it but my insurance company denied this dangerous drug and Rite Aid is still waiting for Dr. Rosenwasser to respond to Rite Aid's request for another script. I have a feeling I better not hold my breath. U.S. News and World Report rates Columbia Press #1 in NYC but I'm not buying it.

Dr Rosenwasser was great to work with. Everyone on his team could not have been any nicer through my process of having surgery and getting back to work. I would recommend him to anyone who is looking for a hand surgeon.
